Milford defense shines vs. Turpin
- Updated: September 16, 2017
For the first time in 17 years, Milford earned bragging rights over Turpin.
Led by 166 rushing yards by Cameron Kells, the Eagles won, 14-7 in the teams’ ECC opener.
Turpin took the lead midway through the first quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by QB Lucas Smith.
Kells broke a 55-yard TD rush early in the second quarter, tying the score.
The decisive score came late in the third stanza, with Blake King punching in a 1-yard run.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Spartans drove to the Milford 13, but Evan Baugh broke up a fourth-down pass to seal with Eagles’ win.
Smith finished 13 of 21 for 158 yards in the losing effort.
King went 17-for-25 for 164 yards, and Dylan Hughes led Milford in receiving yards with 83 on four catches.
Hunter Pemberton recorded 17 tackles to pace the Eagles’ defense, which held Turpin to 72 rushing yards and 2.4 yards per attempt.
Coming off its first win over the Spartans since 2000, Milford (3-1) – which has already surpassed its 2016 win total – will travel to Loveland next week. Turpin will host Walnut Hills.
