Renie returns, Warriors roll
- Updated: September 23, 2017
MADEIRA, ohio – Mariemont trailed 14-0 midway through the third quarter. Junior QB Wally Renie who had missed the previous three games due to an injury as finally was able to shake off the rust after intermission. He hit classmate WR Charlie Cowart for 30 yards on a second down and 24. That play helped sparked the comeback. Shortly after, Renie and Cowart connected for the Warriors first touchdown. Renie finished the game 17-26 for 207 yards and three touchdowns.
Early in the 4th quarter, it was the defense’s turn to come alive. Mariemont senior DL Marshown Curtis forced and returned a fumble 6 yards for the game tying score.
The Warriors then caught Madeira’s kickoff return team sleeping, recovering what can only be described as a very long onside kick. Madeira recovered the ball on the Mustangs 14-yard line. From there it was all Mariemont.
