Mason Shutouts Fairfield

The Mason defense shuts out Fairfield, 15-0, Friday night at home.

The Mason defense has not allowed a point in eight straight quarters, dating back to Week 7 against Middletown. They only allowed 193 yards, which 75 of those yards were passing. Fairfield has been one of those best teams in the conference with pass yardage, but Jeff Tyus was held to just eight completions.

Senior Jake Bracher led the Comets with 14 tackles and teamed up on a sack. Senior Reed Naglich had nine tackles and junior Chase Evans had eight tackles.

After a scoreless first quarter, Mason opened the scoring with just over a minute left in the half when senior Will Adams found senior Tanner Knue on an 18-yard touchdown pass.

They extended the lead when senior Matt Sora found the endzone on a four-yard run. The Comets converted a two-point conversion on a Knue run to make the score 15-0. Sora ran the ball 23 times for 98 yards. The senior running back is third in the conference with 871 yards.

Including the touchdown reception Knue caught five passes for 43 yards. Sophomore Alec Dardis led the Comets with 44 yards receiving after catching just the one pass.

This is Mason’s third straight win, and head to play Lakota East in the regular season finale. The Comets are looking to position themselves for the playoffs.

Fairfield has suffered its second straight loss after winning five straight games. The Indians will finish against Middletown, who is coming off its first win of the season.
