Hamilton’s Hopes Crushed by Cann

HAMILTON, ohio – It wasn’t a thing of beauty but West Clermont went on the road and gutted out a victory over another Division I, Region 4 rival, Hamilton. The Wolves used a pair of big plays in the second quarter that gave them an 11-point advantage. It wasn’t a large lead but it proved to be big enough for the Big Blue to put a dent into. Hamilton moved the ball between the 20’s but the end zone gods wanted no part of the home team. The only stanza in which there was any scoring in the game was the second.

Outside of Ryan Cann and his 21 carries for 175 yards including a 70-yard touchdown run, the rest of the West Clermont offense struggled to get anything going. Cann’s teammates combined for just minus-one yard on the ground, on 16 totes. The Wolves defense held Hamilton to just 5-18 on third and fourth down conversions, had a pair of interceptions and two sacks by senior Joseph Wahl. Juniors Donte Turner, Jr. and Devon Boykin came up with the picks. Turner, Jr. also led the Wolves with 61 passing yards which all came on his only pass attempt.

Over the last seven games dating back to last season West Clermont is 5-2. They have allowed eight points or less in four of those victories.

This was just the second time in its last 31 games that Hamilton has failed to score a touchdown. The only other time was in the 2016 regular season finale. Sophomore Keyshawn Stephens was one of the few bright spots for the Big Blue running for 82 yards and catching three passes for 15 yards.
