Ross pulls off upset of Edgewood
- Updated: September 30, 2018
HAMILTON, ohio– Ross upset Edgewood 10-6 to hand them their first loss of the season in a very defensive game. Ross had 269 total offensive yards with 247 of those coming on the ground.
Running back Dylan Caldwell from Ross led the team in rushing with 93 yards and Jackson Gifford had 59 yards along with the only touchdown for the team.
At halftime, Ross was leading 7-6. In the second half, neither team was budging on defense until Edgewood allowed Ross to get into field goal range and junior kicker Jonathon Neumaier was able to knock a 23-yard field goal through the up rights.
The defense from Ross was able to hold Edgewood to zero points in the second half, allowing their offense to milk the clock and come away with the win.
Both teams didn’t play their best football, giving up two turnovers a piece. However, what killed Edgewood was allowing Ross to win the possession battle 30:09 to 17:51.
Ross went into this rivalry game as huge underdogs because of Edgewood’s undefeated record, but by trusting in their defense they showed that they can play with any team in the Southwest Ohio Conference.
