Colerain breezes by Milford

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Colerain Cardinals didn’t have their best game, but it was good enough to beat the Milford Eagles by 34 points and move to on in the OHSAA playoffs.

Playing on a neutral field at St. Xavier High School, Colerain and Milford exchanged first-quarter touchdowns to knot the game at 7-7 seven minutes into the contest, but the Cardinals would go onto score 41 unanswered points before the break.

The Cardinals’ defense came up with four turnovers, including three pick sixes as Ivan Pace Jr., Jakari Patterson, and Syncere Jones all returned Hunter Johnson interceptions for touchdowns.

On offense it was a balanced attack as four different Colerain players rushed for a score. As a team, they averaged 7.7 yards per carry. Pace Jr. led the all rushers with 88 yards on six carries and JJ Davis added another 82 rushing yards on five totes.

The Eagles were making just the school’s third-ever playoff appearance and second in two years.

It was a rough night for Milford on offense, but senior wide receiver Dylan Hughes was a bright as he pulled in five catches for 97 yards and a touchdown in his final game in an Eagles’ uniform.

Colerain advances to face Elder next week in the Ohio Division, Region 4 Championship game.
