CovCath shuts out Highlands for 28th straight win
- Updated: November 16, 2018
PARK HILLS, Kentucky – The last time Covington Catholic and Highlands met back in October in Fort Thomas, the game went down to the wire with the Colonels winning by seven. Tonight in the friendly confines of Wooten Field it would be a much different story.
The Colonels shined in front of their home crowd and knocked off their biggest rivals, 36-0. It marked the fourth straight time CovCath knocked off the Bluebirds and the team’s 28th victory overall.
It took just over one minute into the game before the scoring got started as sophomore quarterback Caleb Jacob connected with junior tight Michael Mayer on a 65-yard TD pass.
After that the defenses took over as neither team was able to put any more points on the board during the first half.
The second half was dominated by the Colonels and running back Casey McGinness. The senior scored four touchdowns and a two-point conversion in the final two quarters and finished the night with 201 yards rushing on 22 carries. Mayer caught six balls for 140 yards and the score. Jacob was 9-of16 passing for 176 yards. He was picked off one time.
