Walton-Verona Peaking At The Right Time

WALTON, kentucky – It was another scoring frenzy for Walton-Verona who scored 41 unanswered first half points to put away Metcalfe County in the first round of the KHSAA Class 2A playoffs. The Bearcats have averaged 39.75 points during their current four game winning streak.

Six different players found the end zone for Walton-Verona. Peyton Smith had a rushing and receiving touchdown. He finished with 58 yards from scrimmage on eight touches. Also running for touchdowns were Micha Alford, Blake Wolfe and Tyler Wagner.

Bearcats quarterback Garrett Jones went 6-9 for 97 yards and two scoring tosses. Travis Bauer caught three of those balls for 55 yards and a score.

The Walton-Verona just missed getting its eighth shutout of the year and fourth in a row, allowing a lone third quarter score to Metcalfe County. The Bearcats were led by Greg Grubbs with four solo tackles and Art Nolan who returned a fumble 41 yards to the end zone.
