Reach 4 The Sky Youth Foundation: FREE fundamental football & cheer camp
- Updated: May 21, 2019
I caught up with former Cincinnati Bengal, Keith Rucker a few weeks back and he is doing some great stuff in his life after football. Here is is what is going on with Keith in his words.
The foundation is in its 15th year, I am the founder and CEO. I started the foundation to share my testimony/journey from the streets of Chicago to the NFL. Upon the guest speaking and sharing of my story, I found that there was a massive need for the fundamentals of the game that had given me so much. The biggest reason that I found, that deterred the youth from having access to these fundamentals was money. So in 2004, I started a foundation called the Reach 4 The Sky Youth Foundation.
1. We’re all about the kids and
2. Teaching kids the game of life through football & cheer, where our staff/volunteers teach teamwork, life-skills, and problem-solving. These characteristics are ones that our society requires in order to have success in the real world.”In 15 years, our camps have grown from 68 kids per camp to around 300 kids per camp. And it’s all at NO cost to the campers, or their parents.
My background starts in the streets of Chicago. I attended five high schools, four colleges and still found a path that took me to the National Football League for a seven-year career. I obtained my Degree from Ohio Wesleyan University. I taught and coached at the high school level for 12 years before heading off to college coaching/mentoring – five years at Ohio Wesleyan and I am currently going into my second year at Capital University.
This weekend at Princeton High School we have a two-day camp. It’s for boys and girls 6 years of age to 14 years of age. We do football and cheer. We feed the kids breakfast and lunch. They’ll receive a camp T-shirt, and a medal of completion on the last day of camp. We also give camper of the day awards for each age group (6-8, 9-11, and 12-14), each day.
