2019 Snapshot: Goshen
- Updated: July 21, 2019
Building a consistent winner isn’t always easy. Head coach Ryan George has his Goshen program on the cusp of doing just that. With eight starters back on offense and seven on defense this should be an excellent campaign for the Warriors.
George states, “playing great defense and special teams, running the football, controlling the clock and giving great effort overall,” is what’s going to make 2019 a success.
As long as Goshen doesn’t get behind by double digits, they should be in every game. This is a team that is built to run the football. Having to throw it more than 10 times in a game means things are going as planned for this squad. The Warriors have the talent to make it back to the playoffs in Region 11 which is not particularly deep.
Division III, Region 11
2018 RECORD: 6-4, 3-2 SBAAC American
COACH: Ryan George (28-23 at Goshen, five years; 40-41 overall, eight years)
HONOR ROLL
Austin McClanahan, Sr, DE – Emerged as real force with two-and-a-half sacks, a fumble recovery and an interception in 2018. McClanahan was named First Team All-SBAAC American for his efforts.
Hunter Slusher, Sr, RB/SS – Ever since he put on a Goshen uniform, Slusher has been a productive player on both sides of the ball. He was named First Team All-SBAAC American last fall. Slusher finished the season with 399 yards rushing, 14 receptions for 226 yards and found the end zone eight times (six rush, two rec). For his career, Slusher also has three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions that went for touchdowns.
Trevor Adams, Jr, DE – In his first season of playing football, Adams was a Second Team All-SBAAC American selection in 2018. He recorded 5.0 sacks and had two fumble recoveries.
OTHER RETURNEES
Logan Marlowe, Sr, OL/DT – Will be a factor on both sides of the line for Goshen.
Jack Webster, Jr, QB – Started the last eight games for the Warriors and did a nice job as a sophomore. Webster threw for 217 yards, ran for 475 yards and accounted for five touchdowns (two pass, three rush). Things should only get better with a year under his belt.
Dylan Ashcraft, Jr, CB – A returning starter Ashcraft had four takeaways (two FRs, two INTs) as a sophomore.
NEWCOMERS
Four juniors are expected to play key roles for the Warriors this fall OL/DL Eric Eickenhorst, RB/DB Seth Anderson FB/LB Logan Harrison, Jr, FB/MLB and WR/DB Rafael Farris, Jr, WR/DB. Don’t be surprised if Harrison is an all-league selection. He has a tremendous upside.
