Blitz 5 Top 25: Early-season shakeups
- Updated: September 2, 2019
It didn’t take long for havoc rear its ugly head in the Blitz 5 Top 25 presented by TriStateFootball.com. The top and bottom eight teams in last week’s rankings each went a combined 7-1. The squads sandwiched between #9 and #17 went 4-5.
The lone newcomer to the poll is Anderson, who skyrockets up to #16 after an impressive road win at Simon Kenton. The defeat caused the Pioneers to plummet six spots to #17.
Two of Anderson’s ECC rivals, Kings and Turpin, also got wins over ranked schools, but failed to crack the rankings. Kings knocked Lebanon out of the Top 25 while Turpin’s victory sent Lakota East spiraling downward six spots to #18.
Several other teams have made statements to start the 2019 campaign including seventh-ranked Covington Catholic, who has outscored its first two foes 85-0. The top five didn’t disappoint as they pummeled their opponents, none of which could be considered patsies.
Four tilts between ranked teams in Week 2 including the marquee matchup, #2 St. Xavier at # 3 Colerain. The “War on 74” has #11 East Central traveling into the Buckeye state to face #20 Harrison in a standing-room only affair.
