Winton Woods survives at rival La Salle
- Updated: October 26, 2019
CINCINNATI, Ohio – The La Salle came into this game off a big win against rival St. Xavier. The Lancers defense has been stout all season, allowing 20 points or more just twice. Winton Woods came into this game reeling. Losers of three of their last four. The Warriors desperately needed this win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
It was all Lancers in the first quarter, specifically Cam Porter. He caught a 70-yard pass that went to distance. Three minutes later Porter found the end zone again on a 59-yard scamper. The Northwestern commit, accounted for 158 total yards and two scores in the first half alone.
The Warriors finally got things on track in the second quarter, scoring on short runs from Mi’chale Wingfield and Miyan Williams. After scoring late in the first half to make it 21-13, La Salle’s offense went cold the rest of the game.
Wingfield and Dameer Blankumsee also made big plays late in the contest to sustain drives and diversify the Warriors offense.
In the second half, it was all about the Warrior defense, and heavy dose of their superstar running back, Miyan Williams. He was a workhorse with 145 yards and three touchdowns rushing on 32 carries. The Iowa State commit, finishes the regular season with 992 yards on the ground and ups his career total to 5,799 yards rushing.
This the third straight win in the series for Winton Woods, all by five points or less. Even with the victory, the Warriors still needs some help from others to make it into the postseason.
