Cincinnati Round-Up: Playoffs begin

Mother Nature wreaked havoc on the conditions for the opening night of the OHSAA Playoffs, but that didn’t stop some great games from unfolding. It was win or go home and there were several clutch performances across the city.

DIVISION I

No. 8 Fairfield 28, No. 9 Mason 21
These two teams just faced off against each other three weeks ago and much like last time, this contest would come down to the wire.

The Indians got on the scoreboard first midway through the first quarter when Talon Fisher connected with Jordan Jackson for a 56-yard TD strike. Jackson added a 71-yard rushing touchdown later in the opening frame and just like that Fairfield was up 14-0 after one quarter.

Mason answered with a Michael Molnar TD run less than 30 seconds into the second quarter, Jackson added a 59-yard TD run less than six minutes later to keep the lead at 14. Molnar and Mason wouldn’t be denied as he scored a second touchdown on a 34-yard scamper with 4:13 left in the first half to cut the lead to seven.

Jackson added a fourth touchdown with about five minutes left in the third quarter and it would prove to be enough. Mason scored one more time on another Molnar rushing score, but Fairfield held on coming up with the stops when they needed them. They will now move on to face Moeller next week.

No. 12 Sycamore 19, No. 5 Lakota East 0
When the Aviators faced off versus the Thunderhawks in Week 6 they came up a touchdown short on the road and gave up 34 points, matching the most points they allowed all season.

Tonight in front of their home crowd and with the stakes much higher they delivered their finest defensive effort of 2021, shutting out Lakota East and forcing four turnovers. Rashid Harris came up with two of the turnovers as he recovered a fumble and got an interception to go along with five solo tackles.

Quarterback William Ingle paced the offense carrying the ball 25 times for 155 yards and two touchdowns and throwing for 59 yards through the air.
