Elder downs Colerain in 3 OT
- Updated: October 29, 2021
CINCINNATI, Ohio – Elder welcomed Colerain on Friday night to open up the 2021 expanded postseason and there may not have been a better game in the entire state of Ohio. This contest had more storylines in it than the Godfather Trilogy and delivered a Hollywood-like ending.
The biggest storyline easily was the win marked the 200th career win for Panthers’ head coach Doug Ramsey, with all of those victories coming as Elder’s coach.
Ramsey has a record of 200-93 since becoming the Elder head coach in 1997. He led the Panthers to back-to-back Division I state titles in 2002 and 2003 and two other state championship appearances in 2008 and 2019.

However, Ramsey would be the first to tell you it is all about the kids and boy did these kids step up in this one, including his son.
Elder senior Drew Ramsey became the 23rd player in OHSAA history to have at least 100 receptions in a season. He also scored four times in the victory, including the game-winner in the third overtime.
Colerain last played at The Pit in 2009, but these two teams have had epic battles in the past and Friday night’s affair might top the list.
It took three overtimes to determine a winner and it felt like one of those games neither team deserved to lose. Both teams have endured their fair share of disappointments this season, but there’s no question they each laid everything they had on the field in this one.
Sophomore QB Zae Jennings dazzled for the visiting Cardinals, looking as dominant as Dominick Goodman to longtime Colerain fans for flashes in this contest. He rushed for five touchdowns in the loss. Despite the tough defeat knowing that they’ll have two more years of Jennings in the mix will help ease the blow of the loss for the faithful Cardinals’ fans.
