Ryle edges out Dixie Heights
- Updated: October 15, 2021
EDGEWOOD, Kentucky – Two of the top teams in Northern Kentucky’s Class 6A, District 6 lived up to the top billing in a defensive battle in Edgewood, with the Ryle Raiders knocking off the Dixie Heights Colonels 13-12 on Friday night in this week’s Blitz Game of the Week. The game started an hour early due to impending weather.
With the win, Ryle moves into sole possession of the top spot in the district heading into Week 9 of the 2021 season.
The Colonels lit up the scoreboard first when quarterback Logan Landers capped off a 74-yard drive by finding Devin Holbert on an eight-yard scoring pass. Dixie Heights was playing without a kicker due to injury, leaving them with no option but to attempt two-point conversions all night long. Landers attempted to connect with Gabe Thelen for a two-point conversion, but failed to do so.
Ryle took advantage of a Kaden Gardner interception in Colonels’ territory when quarterback Logan Verax scampered into the end zone. The successful extra point by Summer Denigan gave the Raiders a one-point lead.
With starting field position on their side, the Colonels were able to retake the lead on the heels of a 60-yard drive that ended with an 11-yard scoring toss from Landers to Brach Rice. However, another failed two-point conversion only extended the Dixie lead to five going into the half.
