Wyoming keeps streak alive
- Updated: October 8, 2021
CINCINNATI, Ohio – The longest regular season win-streak in Ohio lives on as the Wyoming Cowboys knocked off the Mariemont Warriors in their 55th consecutive regular season win. The Cowboys are the first team to put up 30+ points on the Warriors this season.
Mariemont came out swinging with their first drive, but ultimately settled for 3 with a 25-yard field goal from Connor Souders.
C.J. Hester took that personally and scored the next two rushing touchdowns for the Cowboys. The reigning OPSWA Division IV Southwest District Player of the Year and First Team All-Ohio selection reminded us all that he’s more than capable of repeating his success. The junior powerhouse tallied 143 yards rushing in the first half in addition to his two touchdowns.
Clock management proved pivotal as Wyoming marched from their own 32 in the final seconds of the half. Sophomore quarterback Quaid Hauer connected with junior wide receiver Matty Mitchell in the end zone to end the half with a touchdown.
Wyoming quite literally hit the ground running coming out of the locker room as Quaid Hauer connected with DJ Gray, who took it 50 yards for the first Cowboy touchdown of the second half.
Mariemont refused to go out quietly and answered with their first touchdown of the night on a 9-yard touchdown pass from sophomore QB Charlie Tully to senior wide receiver Connor Souders to round out third quarter action.
Wyoming quickly quieted any Mariemont momentum, scoring just seconds into the fourth quarter with another touchdown throw to Matty Mitchell. CJ Hester added the final nail to the coffin with his third touchdown of the night. The 4-yard carry would be the final touchdown of the evening to secure a 40-9 win for the Cowboys over the Warriors.
The win gives Wyoming their sixth consecutive season with an 8-0 start.
