Moeller comes back to beat Princeton
- Updated: November 12, 2021
MASON, Ohio – Despite being down 14-0 early in the third round of the Division I, Region 4 playoffs on Friday night, the Moeller Crusaders came storming back to knock out the Princeton Vikings 28-21 at Atrium Field in Mason.
The game ended the magical run for Princeton, who ended the season 11-2 in one of the most successful seasons in recent memory for the Vikings.
The Vikings had momentum to start the game, scoring on its first possession on an 80-yard run by Emoni Steele. That was quickly followed up with a costly Crusader fumble, which was scooped up by Maceo Powell and taken 58 yards for the score, giving Princeton a 14-0 lead just a minute and a half into the game.
The Crusaders re-grouped and showed why they are the top seed. Quarterback Noah Geselbracht found the end zone from six yards out to put Moeller on the board. On their next possession, Geselbracht found Tennel Bryant for a 66-yard scoring air strike to tie the game after the first quarter.
Moeller would take the lead halfway through the second quarter when Geselbracht found Kurt Thompson from eight yards out. A William Steele extra point gave the Crusaders the 21-14 lead at halftime.
Alec Weeder would tack on another touchdown for the Crusaders on a 36-yard run. Princeton attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter, but could only muster up one touchdown when T.J. Engleman used his legs to score from two yards out.
Geselbracht finished the game having thrown 19-for-28, 242 passing yards and two touchdowns. Bryant led all receivers with six receptions, 109 yards and one touchdown. Weeder added 107 yards on the ground on 19 carries and a touchdown.
Notably for Princeton, Emoji Steele rushed for 126 yards on nine carries and a touchdown. Moeller didn’t allow the Viking offense to be on the field very long, dominating time of possession 34 minutes to 14 minutes.
Moeller will move on to take on it’s fourth straight foe from the Greater Miami Conference, Lakota West, who knocked off St. Xavier 12-2.
