Winton Woods hands Kings first loss

KINGS, Ohio – Winton Woods used a 17-point first quarter to build a lead that would prove too tough to overcome for Kings as the Warriors handed the Knights their first loss of the season.

The Knights won the regular-season meeting between these two squads 14-13 on September 3, but Chad Murphy’s club has come a long way since that game and seem to be clicking on all cylinders at just the right time. The team has now won five straight games, averaging 31.6 points per game during that span.

TyRek Spikes have been a big catalyst during the recent surge and that trend continued on Friday night. He scored two times on the ground in the opening frame alone with runs of 39 and 73 yards and later in the half threw a 28-yard TD pass. The do-it-all senior tallied 317 total yards of offense in the win.

After the first quarter explosion, Kings settled things down and finally started to figure out how to slow down the Warriors, but it proved to be too late.

The Knights fought to the end with Will Kocher throwing for 309 yards and a score, but he was picked off three times, including twice by Jermaine Matthews Jr.
