TSF 2021 Cincinnati OPOY: Drew Novak
- Updated: February 22, 2022
It was one of the most prolific passing seasons the Buckeye state has ever seen. Western Brown quarterback, Drew Novak was named TriState Football Cincinnati Offensive Player of the Year, as TSF paid tribute to the area’s finest from Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton and Southeast Indiana at the Year in Review Show on Monday night, in front of a packed house at the Holy Grail in downtown Cincinnati.
It was a historical junior campaign for Novak who helped Western Brown (11-2) to its first ever appearance in the regional finals. He threw for 5,269 yards, ran for 1,202 yards with 56 passing touchdowns and 21 scores on the ground. His 5,269 passing yards are the sixth highest season total in Ohio history. Novak also became just the sixth player in Ohio history to throw for more than 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in a season. He is the 15th player in Ohio history to throw at least 56 touchdowns.
Those efforts also earned him a Ohio Mr. Football Finalist nomination, as well as OPSWA Division III OPOY, OPSWA Division III First Team All-Ohio, OPSWA Division III Southwest District OPOY and SBAAC American OPOY honors.
Novak heads into his senior year with 9,924 yards passing, 13th most in Ohio history. He is projected to finish with the third most yards behind Maty Mauk (18,932) and Ben (17,364) Mauk of Kenton.
Other Cincinnati OPOY finalists included seniors Joey Faulkner (Anderson), Brogan McCaughey (St. Xavier), Drew Ramsey (Elder) William Ingle (Sycamore), TyRek Spikes (Winton Woods), juniors Will Kocher (Kings), CJ Hester (Wyoming) and sophomore Jordan Marshall (Moeller).
TriStateFootball.com was founded in 2005 and started its postseason awards in 2007. Novak is the first Western Brown player to be named the TSF Cincinnati Offensive Player of the Year and the sixth junior along with Mark Miller (Elder) in 2008, Jalin Marshall (Middletown) in 2011, Greg Simpson (Sycamore) in 2012, Jeremy Larkin (LaSalle) in 2014 and Miyan Williams (Winton Woods) in 2018 win the award .
