TSF 2021 Indiana DPOY: Sam Ringer
- Updated: February 22, 2022
All the hard work paid off for East Central defensive back Sam Ringer, who was named the TriState Football Indiana Defensive Player of the Year, as TSF paid tribute to the area’s finest from Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton and Southeast Indiana at the Year in Review Show on Monday night, in front of a packed house at the Holy Grail in downtown Cincinnati. Ringer fought his way back from injuries late last season and made himself ready for the start of 2021. His grit and determination led to an outstanding senior campaign.
He was the leader of the East Central (10-3) secondary that helped the school win its 20th sectional championship in school history and first since 2018. The Trojans allowed just 15.3 points per game and held seven of their 13 foes to eight points or less.
Ringer tallied 47 total tackles, had seven tackles for losses, a fumble recovery and three interceptions including a pick-six. That effort also earned him EIAC 4A DPOY and IFCA Class 4A Senior All-State honors. He also had four rushing touchdowns and one stupendous kickoff return for a touchdown.
TriStateFootball.com was founded in 2005 and started its postseason awards for the Indiana Defensive Player of the Year in 2011. Ringer is the fifth player from East Central to earn the honor.
