It was a fitting end to a storied career for Beechwood quarterback Cam Hergott who was named the TriState Football Kentucky Offensive Player of the Year, as TSF paid tribute to the area’s finest from Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton and Southeast Indiana at the Year in Review Show on Monday night, in front of a packed house at the Holy Grail in downtown Cincinnati.

The senior led Beechwood (15-0) to a perfect season, its second straight state title, fifth championship in the last six years, third with Hergott at QB, and 16th crown in program history. Hergott amassed 4,134 yards of total offense (2,323 pass, 1,811 rush) and accounted for 61 touchdowns (32 pass, 29 rush). Those efforts also earned him Courier-Journal Second Team All-Kentucky, Class 2A State Championship Game MVP (for a third time), Class 2A District 6 POY and First Team All-NKY (for a third time).

His 8,537 career yards passing are 26th most in Kentucky history. Hergott’s 97 career touchdown passes are 29th in Kentucky history. He will continue his football career at Eastern Kentucky.

The other Kentucky Offensive Player of the Year finalists were seniors – Alex Castrucci (Conner), Logan Landers (Dixie Heights), Braxten Newborn (Ludlow), Cole Wallace (Rowan County), junior Mitch Berger (Beechwood) and Tyson Beach (Walton-Verona). This the second finalist nomination for Berger (finalist on defense in ’20), Hergott, Newborn and Wallace.

TriStateFootball.com was founded in 2005 and started its postseason awards in 2007. Hergott is the third player to be named TSF Kentucky OPOY twice in the 15-year history of this award.
