NKY Round-Up: Colonels win sixth straight
- Updated: September 30, 2022
The Colonels continued their strong play and some Bluebirds lit up the scoreboard once again on this Friday night. There were several dominant performances in Northern Kentucky as several teams made statements by winning big.
N0. 12 COVINGTON CATHOLIC 43, BOONE COUNTY 0
Covington Catholic brought its A game enroute to a shutout over Boone County. The Colonels outgained the Rebels 444-218 in total offense including a dominant performance in the run game. CovCath rushed 30 times for 394 yards, taking a physical approach to dispatch Boone County Friday night and win their sixth straight game.
The Colonels used a big second half to blow open a two-possession game. Owen Leen was the catalyst for most of the night. The tailback rushed for 221 yards on only 16 carries to lead the charge. Leen scored three touchdowns on the night and was simply unstoppable for the Rebels.
Quarterback Evan Pitzer rushed for a score and also added 50 yards passing through the air in the dominant victory. Tate Kruer anchored the shutout with six tackles as the Colonel defense only allowed eight first downs the entire game.
Boone County got a great effort from quarterback Jamarion Hocker. Hocker was 13-24 for 184 yards passing and added another 69 yards on the ground in the loss.
NO. 23 HIGHLANDS 55, CONNER 0
Highlands used a big offensive night to fly by Conner. The Bluebirds racked up 352 yards of total offense in a dominating effort that crossed both sides of the football. The defense held Conner to just 45 yards of total offense including -11 in the passing game.
Highlands quarterback Brody Benke hooked up with wideout Carson Class for three touchdown connections in the first half alone to help break the game open.
The Bluebirds led 49-0 at the half and never looked back. Benke led the offensive explosion by going 15-20 for 201 yards and four touchdown passes. He threw for touchdowns of 22, 17, 2, and 35 yards in the dominant win.
