Cincinnati Round-Up: Crusaders, Firebirds win; set up showdown
- Updated: November 11, 2022
This week’s playoff action saw some high-level games as Moeller and Lakota West advanced in Division I. Elsewhere Badin survived a tough test as they continued their efforts to get back to the state title game.
DIVISION I, REGION 4
#1 MOELLER 24, #4 MASON 16
Moeller continued their march toward a return trip to the state final four with a solid victory on Friday night. The Crusaders took a 24-0 lead through three quarters and held off a furious comeback as they pushed past a tough Mason squad. Jordan Marshall and Brett Kelley both scored rushing touchdowns for Moeller. Tennel Bryant caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Matt Ponatawski as the Crusaders were feeling good early.
Mason made a push in the fourth quarter. Larson Brown found Braden Greer for a touchdown pass. After a two-point conversion and onside kick recovery, the Comets struck again when Greer took another one in. Another two-point conversion had the lead down to 24-16 with three minutes to play. Moeller would recover the next onside and was able to run out the clock on the win.
#3 LAKOTA WEST 30, #2 ELDER 10
Lakota West punched their ticket to their third straight regional final with a dominating win over Elder. The Firebirds fired on all cylinders on their way to victory.
Mitch Bolden accounted for two touchdowns in the victory. He found Scottie Johnson for a touchdown pass and ran one in late in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Trent Lloyd added a touchdown and Tyler Bohn knocked in three field goals in the win.
Elder got a touchdown pass from Ben Schoster to Carson Browne and a field goal from Max LeMasters as their scores in the loss.
DIVISION II, REGION 8
#10 ANDERSON 55, #3 EDGEWOOD 35
Anderson used an offensive outburst to run by Edgewood on Friday night. The Raptors jumped out to a 27-0 lead and never looked back as they used their high-powered offense to overwhelm the Cougars. Griffin Scalf threw for five touchdowns on the night as the Anderson offense was hitting on all cylinders.

DIVISION III, REGION 12
#1 BADIN 16, #4 WAPAKONETA 9
The Badin Rams used a stout defensive effort to slip past Wapakoneta in Dayton on Friday night. The Rams raised their level and did not give up a touchdown in a tight, physical ball game.
Zach Yordy and Carson Cheek scored touchdowns for the number one seeded Rams but it was their defense that pushed them to advance. Cheek added an interception as Badin made sure not to give up a late score on their way to victory.
#3 TIPPECANOE 41, #2 WESTERN BROWN 30
The Tippecanoe Red Devils pulled off the upset over Western Brown on Friday night. Western Brown was not able to capitalize on many trips deep into Red Devil territory as Tippecanoe’s defense made a ton of timely defensive stops. Tippecanoe advances to play top seeded Badin next week.
DIVISION V, REGION 20
#1 VALLEY VIEW 38, #5 MADEIRA 7
Valley View got a dominating victory over Madeira on Friday night. Valley View played a complete game by holding Madeira to a season low in points while putting on an impressive offensive display themselves on their way to victory.
