2022 TSF Kentucky Team of the Year: Beechwood
- Updated: February 21, 2023
Injuries and setbacks during the regular season weren’t enough to deter Beechwood (14-1) from capturing its third straight state championship and sixth in the last seven years. It was the 17th title for the program, eighth under head coach Noel Rash and second at the Class 2A level (the other 15 were in Class 1A).
Those accomplishments were more than worthy enough to have the Tigers be named the 2022 TriState Football Kentucky Team of the Year as TSF paid tribute to finest from Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton and Southeast Indiana area’s high school gridiron at the Year in Review Show on Monday night, in front of a packed house at the Holy Grail, downtown Cincinnati.
Beechwood dominated on both sides of the ball. On defense, the Tigers held 14 of their 15 foes to 14 points or less with five shutouts while allowing just 7.8 points per game. The Beechwood offense averaged 40.7 points per game despite playing large chunks of the season without their senior star RB/LB Mitch Berger and sophomore starting QB Clay Hayden. Thirteen of the Tigers victories were by at least 20 points including six wins of 48 or more.
As for Rash, who recently announced his retirement, Beechwood went 193-45 in his 17 years at the helm. Under his tutelage, the program never had a losing season, at least eight victories every year and 12 campaigns of at least 10 victories. In the postseason, the Tigers were a combined 62-9 (seven of those losses were to Mayfield) for an .873 winning %, with eight state titles for Rash. Beechwood made 15 trips to the state semi-finals (final four), in Rash’s last 16 years leading the way.
