TSF 2022 Kentucky DPOY: Austin Alexander
- Updated: February 21, 2023
The ceiling is high and the opportunities will be plentiful for Cooper sophomore Austin Alexander who was named the 2022 TriState Football Kentucky Defensive Player of the Year as TSF paid tribute to the area’s finest from Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton and Southeast Indiana at the Year in Review Show on Monday night, in front of a packed house at the Holy Grail in downtown Cincinnati.
An outstanding two-way player whose best days are still ahead. Alexander tallied 85 total tackles, had 11.0 sacks and returned his only interception for a touchdown as Cooper (6-5) recorded back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2015-16. On offense, Alexander caught 34 balls for 522 yards and six touchdowns. Those efforts also earned him First Team All-NKY (for a second straight season) and First Team All-TSF acclaim.
Alexander already has offers from Maryland, Akron, Eastern Kentucky, Liberty and Miami (OH).
Other 2022 TSF Kentucky DPOY finalists included seniors Adam Dunn (Highlands), Aiden Jones (Covington Catholic), Byron May (Rowan County) Luke Runyon (Newport Central Catholic) along with juniors Xavier Campbell (Beechwood) and Brach Rice (Dixie Heights).
TriStateFootball.com was founded in 2005 and started its postseason awards in 2007. In the 16-year history of this award, Alexander becomes just the second sophomore with Michael Mayer (Covington Catholic/Notre Dame in 2018) and second Jaguar (Marcus Watson – 2015) to be named the TSF Kentucky Defensive Player of the Year.
