2023 Snapshot: Lockland
- Updated: April 21, 2023
It’s been an odd run for Lockland. The Panthers have had three straight losing campaigns yet they have managed to make the playoffs in each of those years. They have been outmatched in their three postseason losses, being outscored by a combined, 142-0. Head coach Mike Tutdor isn’t going to let his squad be satisfied with just getting to Week 11. He’ll have his team set its sights on being victorious in the regular season and beyond.
The seniors are aiming to become the third class in school history to go to the playoffs in all four of their years, joining the Classes of 2011 & 2012. Motivating them even more is the chance to be known the class that brought home the program’s first postseason win, something 10 other sets of seniors before them have failed at doing.
Lockland returns 15 of the 20 players that were on the roster in 2022. Like all small
schools, depth is always a huge hurdle to deal with. That will be no different for the Panthers. If they stay healthy good things are going to happen for this experienced bunch.
The offense has weapons but needs to do a better job at taking care of the football (21 turnovers a year ago) and finishing drives. That should immensely benefit a Lockland defense that gave up 43.9 points per game last fall. The team had an average margin of defeat of 29.1 points per game. If they move the chains, keep the clock running, the Panthers will be a handful to deal with especially with their skills positions players.
With Tudor’s options limited because of depth, his Panthers will have to play like savvy, smart veterans and embrace the “underdog” role. This team knows where the bar is set, not only in the MVC Gray but in Region 28. So many foes and peers are hungry to prove themselves, Lockland needs to show it has just as much of an appetite for victory as they do. The nucleus is there to get that done on Friday nights at Roettger Stadium.
Division VII, Region 28
2021 RECORD: 2-8, 2-3 MVC Gray
COACH: Michael Tudor (6-13 at Lockland, two years; 6-13 overall)
HONOR ROLL
Damien Dawson, Jr, QB/FS – A dual threat quarterback who is also force as a return specialist. Dawson, a two-time Second Team All-MVC Gray performer is the heart-and-soul of the Panthers offense. He heads into his junior season with more than 2,500 yards of total offense, 1,600 all-purpose yards, while accounting for 26 touchdowns (17 pass, eight rush, one KR) in his career.
Aliou Diallo, Jr, WR/FS – Like Dawson, Diallo is a two-time Second Team All-MVC Gray honoree heading into his junior year. One of the vital cogs in the Lockland defense who has 49 total tackles in a Panthers uniform. Diallo also has the propensity for making the big play at receiver on offense, with four of his 11 career receptions going for touchdowns.
Billy Parrott, Sr, RB/SS – Lockland is going to call on Parrott to ramp up his production in 2023. A Second Team All-MVC Gray selection last fall, this Panther is going to get his opportunities to shine both running and catching the ball out of the backfield.
Ken’Darius Coleman, Jr, OL – Despite being just a junior, Lockland will look to Coleman for leadership on the offensive side of the line. The Honorable Mention All-MVC Gray selection in 2022 will also be a major factor in the trenches on defense.
Mouhamed Tall, Jr, WR/CB – Has a knack for coming up with ball and the Panthers will need even more of that from Tall this fall. He earned Honorable Mention All-MVC Gray accolades as a sophomore. Tall has four career interceptions.
NEWCOMER
The coaching staff thinks sophomore OL/DE Demitrius Anderson has a chance to be a good one. The Panthers will welcome his presence on both sides of the line.
