2023 Snapshot: Hamilton
- Updated: June 23, 2023
The Hamilton Big Blue started the 2022 season with some hope after a 2-1 start that included an exciting win over West Clermont and a shutout win over rival Middletown. However, a six-game losing streak derailed the Big Blue season before a regular season finale win over Sycamore.
The 2023 version of the Hamilton Big Blue will be young and hungry to improve on that 3-7 regular season record and extend the program-best four straight playoff appearances to five. Coach Arvie Crouch expects his team to be fast and physical, two skills that will be needed in a always-difficult GMC.
The schedule doesn’t do any favors for Hamilton either, as the Big Blue will challenge themselves against a Badin team that finished 13-1 last season. That rivalry game will be an exciting lead-in into a GMC schedule that will test the Big Blue ahead of a fifth straight playoff appearance.
Division I, Region 4
2022 RECORD: 3-8, 2-7 GMC
COACH: Arvie Crouch (3-8 at Hamilton, one year; 98-55 overall, 14 years)
HONOR ROLL
Trey Verdon, Jr, DL – Verdon is coming off a season where he was named OPSWA Division I Second Team All-SW District. His stat line included 34 total tackles, six sacks and 10 tackles for loss as a sophomore. His freshman year was impressive too with 36 total tackles, 1.5 sacks and one fumble recovery. Verdon has offers from Pitt, Miami (OH) and Toledo.
Kaleb Taylor, Sr, OL – Taylor will be called upon to be the leader of a young and inexperienced offensive line. The 6-foot-7, 325-pound Taylor was named Second Team All-GMC as a junior.
OTHER RETURNEES
Caleb White, Sr, DB – White will see an uptick in playing time his senior year. In three games last season, he totaled three tackles.
Cournell Bennett-McCoy, Sr, RB – Bennett-McCoy will take the reigns in the backfield after the two leading rushers graduated. Bennett-McCoy rushed for 292 yards and a touchdown last year.
RJ Shepherd, Jr, WR – Expected to be one of the top targets this season, Shepherd will look to improve on his 12 reception, 100-yard and one touchdown 2022 season. He also did some damage in the return game with 232 return yards and a kick return touchdown.
Carter Isaacs, Jr, DB – Isaacs will be a force in the secondary, coming off a season with 31 tackles and 6.5 tackles for losses.
NEWCOMERS
Senior DL Javion Barnes, juniors QB Antonio Mathis, WR Cairon Navey along with sophomores TE/OLB Mason Holbrook and DE Eckley Bridges will all get their fair shots at trying to win spots in the starting lineup.
