Player Spotlight: Brennan Remy
- Updated: July 18, 2023
Teams often go as far as their leaders can take them. A great leader has the ability to lift his team to accomplishments that might otherwise be difficult without him. The Lakota West Firebirds have been full of great leaders in recent years. This has shown on the field as the GMC champs have made it all the way to the regional final in three consecutive years. If they want to make it back there and perhaps further, they’ll look for senior wideout Brennan Remy to be the one leading them there.
Remy burst onto the scene in 2022 as one of the best pass catchers in the area. He was constantly a threat to opposing defenses and although his personal accomplishments were stellar, he has bigger goals in mind. “Last year was really good but we came up short. We want to be ring chasers. We want to win every game and win state.” Leadership will undoubtedly be a factor as well. “We lost many of our leaders from the last couple of years and I plan to step into that role,” said Remy. The senior to be noted that the Firebirds have been focused on their goals and pushing one another. “Focused 24/7, going best on best and just doing everything we can to reach our goals.”
Last fall Remy caught 44 balls for 665 yards, and 10 TDs. He was second in receiving yards and led the GMC is receiving touchdowns. Although he was arguably the best wideout in the conference a year ago, the shifty slot performer who models his game after LA Rams star Cooper Kupp still wants to be better. “I had three drops last year and I don’t want to have any this season. Winning one on one balls downfield and just being stronger are things I’m working on. Tightening up the little things.” All the work has Remy on a trajectory to be even better, something that will surely give opponents headaches.
Remy is committed to Southeast Missouri State University citing that the coaches there were real and current players insightful and helpful. SEMO is getting a player not afraid to work and definitely doesn’t fear the big moments. Big moments are something Remy and the Firebirds plan to be in a lot of in 2023. Possibly even a third straight crack at Moeller in a regional final. “We definitely want to get back. We want our chance to get them back.”
