Cincinnati Round-Up: Bombers prevail with defense
- Updated: September 9, 2023
Some Eagles continued their high-powered scoring and the Bombers got a solid road win in our Cincinnati round-up.
NO. 3 ST. XAVIER 14, NO. 6 WITHROW 10
St. Xavier went on the road and got a tough win over Withrow on Friday night. Spencer Stegbauer and Jack McClatchey scored first quarter touchdowns for the Bombers as they held on for the victory. The Bombers put up a tremendous defensive effort as they did not give up a touchdown on the night.
Withrow’s Teryhon Nichols took the opening kickoff of the second half 96 yards to the house for a touchdown and just a four-point deficit, but the Tigers could not get any closer as they fell for the first time this season. Both defenses held their own in the second half and neither offense could get anything going. St. Xavier did just enough to run the clock out in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
NO. 10 MILFORD 55, NO. 8 ANDERSON 35
The Milford Eagles continued their strong season by sprinting pass Anderson on Friday night. The Eagles, now 4-0, continued with their prolific offensive performances as opposing teams have not been able to keep pace with their scoring prowess.
The usual suspects did the damage for the Eagles against Anderson. Nathan Webster, Tofa Luani, and Reece Davis all found the endzone as Milford showcased their high-octane offense.
NO. 24 CLINTON-MASSIE 28, NO. 14 MOUNT HEALTHY 26
Clinton-Massie jumped out to a 21-6 halftime lead and held on to beat visiting Mount Healthy on Friday night. Nolan Phipps scored two early touchdowns to get things going for the home team and an early 14-0 advantage.
Ja’Mier Scott scored on a 30-yard TD pass to cut into the lead but Clinton Massie responded with a 5-yard touchdown run from Logan Chesser to take that halftime lead. Spain threw his second TD of the game for Mount Healthy on a 71-yarder to Jayjay Etheridge to cut the lead and Israel Bradford added a rushing score but the Owls could not get any closer as they fell in a tough one on the road.
