Cincinnati Round-Up: Firebirds secure first win

A GMC power picked up their first win of the season in dominant fashion and some Raptors were aggressive in a win of their own in our Cincinnati round-up.

NO. 8 EAST CENTRAL 38, NO. 4 MOELLER 28,

Josh Ringer scored four touchdowns and the Trojans of East Central did just enough defensively to beat Moeller on Friday night. Ringer was everywhere for East Central on the offensive side of the ball. He got things rolling with an 11-yard touchdown reception but was far from finished.

After a Moeller score, Ringer toted the rock 76 yards for his second score of the game and a 14-7 lead. He would add two more scores in the second half to put Moeller away and please the home crowd.

Moeller was led by the duo of quarterback Matt Ponatoski and wideout Roman Mason. Ponatoski found Mason for three scores on the night, but it would not be enough for the Crusaders as they fell to 0-2 against teams from the state of Indiana and 1-2 overall. Ponatoski would add another touchdown pass to running back Jordan Marshall.

East Central improves to 3-0.

NO. 7 LAKOTA WEST 33,  NO. 18 FAIRFIELD 0

Lakota West ran wild to their first victory of the season. The Firebirds went on the road and got a big win to get back into the early season GMC race. A quarterback change sparked things as Sam Wiles got the start and got the visitors off to a terrific start.

Wiles was 9/10 on the night for 182 yards and two scores. He threw touchdown passes to Rece Mason and Jiovanni Wilson on the night. He also led the team on the ground with 34 yards on 12 carries.

With the offense finally breaking out, it was the West defense who stole the show as they held down all area quarterback Talon Fisher. Fisher was 7/14 for 84 yards and was not a factor in the run game as he usually is. He rushed for 41 yards on 13 attempts. Lakota West is only giving up a shade over 9 points per game so far this season.

NO. 9 ANDERSON 44, LEBANON 14

The Anderson Raptors got back to their prolific offensive efforts on Friday night with a win over Lebanon.  The Raptors started fast and never looked back as they got things going early and often. Quarterback Justice Burnam got things going with a 12-yard TD to Trace Jallick. Brodey Berg converted the two points for a quick 8-0 lead. After a Lebanon answer, the Raptors really took off.

Berg would add TD runs from three and six yards to give Anderson a 22-14 lead. Lebanon quarterback Faler tossed two scores to keep them within reach early but could not keep pace. Later Berg would rush for two more touchdowns of 27 and five yards respectively to blow the game open. Burnam would add another touchdown pass, this time to Mike Smith and Anderson would cruise to victory.
