On a night when Centerville had trouble penetrating the red zone it turned to kicker Leland Gantz to manufacture points on stalled drives. The junior obliged, knocking down a pair of 48-yard field goals and another one of 35-yards, all in the second half to propel the Elks to their fourth straight victory.
Springboro outgained Centerville 242 yards to 175 yards but turned the ball over four times. The Elks secondary came up with interceptions from seniors Seth Alejandrino, Reggie Powers III and Ross Coppock. Classmate Landen King was putting the pressure on up front with 13 total tackles and two sacks. It was the fifth time this season that Centerville has given up 17 points or less.
Springboro receiver Maxim Butler had career highs with nine receptions and 99 yards receiving. He at least two catches in 12 straight contests.
Centerville, Wayne and Fairmont are all tied for first place at 3-0 in the GWOC with just four weeks left. Every other team in the league has at least two losses.
