Dayton Round-Up: Northmont ends skid at Wayne

Jussiah Williams returned the opening kickoff of the second half 82-yards for a touchdown as Wayne built 24-7 advantage over Northmont. The Thunderbolts appeared to be on their way to a fourth straight loss after starting the year, 3-0 while the Warriors were looking at maintaining their share of first place in the GWOC.
The defense tightened its belt, Cedric Works snared two key interceptions and the Northmont offense would erupt for the games final 19 points, all coming in a 12-minute span between the third and fourth quarters to steal one on the road. The Thunderbolts are now 2-3 in games decided by six points or less.
Senior quarterback Deuce Cortner threw for two touchdowns and ran for another for the victors. Sophomore Calilien Grant pitched in with 113 yards rushing and a pair of scores. Receiver Dalin Wilkins had a touchdown reception for a fifth straight week and now has 11 touchdown catches on the year.
Williams was electric for Wayne with 145 yards on four touches with the a kickoff return for a score and a 39-yard touchdown reception.

TROY 43, XENIA 6 – Senior Jahari Ward ran for career highs with 249 yards and four scores rushing as Troy (6-1, 5-1) rolled Xenia (4-3, 3-3), 43-6. Ward raised his season total to 1,028 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground. It was the sixth time this season that the Trojans have held an opponent to seven points or less. They are giving up just 4.6 points per game.

CHAMINADE JULIENNE 48, BISHOP FENWICK 20 – Junior Aiden Lowery ran for career highs 173 yards and four touchdowns as Chaminade Julienne improved to 5-2, 1-1) after taking down Bishop Fenwick (4-3, 0-2). It was the third straight loss for the Falcons. The Eagles churned out 468 yards on 47 carries with six rushing scores. Lowery’s classmates Nydrell Wright had 133 yards on 12 carries and Ethan Stacey racked up 99 yards on the ground. Wright and Malachi Ringer each had a rushing touchdown. The Eagles are averaging 322.9 yards per game rushing and have only thrown 14 passes all season.
