NKY Round-Up: Colonels dominate

The Pioneers of Simon Kenton picked up a solid win while Highlands and CovCath continued their winning ways with dominant wins in our NKY round-up.
SIMON KENTON 27, CAMPBELL COUNTY 21
A Brady Lee Hail Mary was answered by Nathan Kitchens as time expired to lift Simon Kenton to a 27-21 win over Campbell County on Friday night. The Pioneers and Camels battled all night in a hard-fought affair.
Tyson Weaver scored a rushing touchdown for Simon Kenton. Durrell Turner scored on a 92-yard rushing touchdown and Lee tossed two scores on the night. He also found Weaver for a touchdown for the game winning score.
The Pioneers look to carry their momentum into week 10 and beyond after the big win in front of the home crowd.
NO.13 HIGHLANDS 58, CONNER 7
Highlands put up a boatload of points in a route of Conner on Friday night. The Bluebirds’ offense continued to fire on all cylinders as they have been a scoring machine this season.
Cam Giesler led the way for Highlands with 113 yards on 11 carries, including an 80-yard TD scamper. Quarterbacks Brody Benke and Rio Litmer each tossed a pair of touchdowns in the route.
The win marks the seventh straight victory and gives Highlands the Class 5A, District 6 title.
NO.11 COVINGTON CATHOLIC 56, HARRISON COUNTY 6
Covington Catholic got a big victory over Harrison County on Friday night. The Colonels dominated the game from start to finish and on all cylinders. CovCath rushed out to a 42-0 lead at the half and a running clock.
Quarterback Evan Pitzer was 8-8 for 228 yards and 3 touchdowns on the night. Two of those went to UK commit Willie Rodriguez and the third to Oliver Link. Owen Leen rushed five times for 44 yards and 2 touchdowns for a strong game with limited touches.
This game was over quickly and the Colonels were able to get their starters out of the game early. The Colonels rushed for 165 yards on the ground on the night.
