Cincinnati Round-Up: Week 14
- Updated: November 17, 2023
Tickets were punched to the state final four as Moeller broke through for the third straight time and Anderson made it to the state final four after coming up short a year ago. It was a night full of action in our Cincinnati Round-Up.
DIVISION I, REGION 4
No. 5 MOELLER 22, NO. 3 LAKOTA WEST 0
The Moeller Crusaders advanced to the state final four by beating Lakota West for the third straight season in the regional championship. The Crusaders used a tremendous defensive effort as they shut down the Firebirds’ offense en route to the win. It was a tough defensive battle as the Lakota West defense also held Moeller without a touchdown for most of the night. Moeller did do enough to get in field goal range as Devin Orr knocked in three field goals on the night.
Moeller’s Karson Hobbs recovered a Lakota West lateral and returned the fumble seven yards for the game’s first touchdown. Jordan Marshall added 103 yards rushing and a score late. He also caught five passes for 49 yards. Quarterback Matt Ponatoski threw for 179 yards in the air. Moeller stays alive and looks to avenge a disappointing end to last season as they seek a state championship. The Crusaders will face Springfield next week.
GAME RECAP: It’s three in a a row for Big Moe
DIVISION II, REGION 8
NO. 1 ANDERSON 49, NO. 3 WITHROW 28
The Anderson Raptors got a big win over Withrow to advance to the state final four on Friday night. The Raptors continued their dominant play on the offensive side of the ball as they put up a staggering 49 points on one of the better defenses around.
The Raptors air raid attack proved to be too much for the Tigers as they moved up and down the field all night long. The Anderson defense did enough to keep their team in front as they will advance to the state final four after disappointment at this stage a season ago. The Raptors will face Massillon next week.

DIVISION III, REGION 12
NO. 6 CELINA 37, NO. 1 BADIN 25
The Badin Rams saw their season come to an end at the hands of Celina on Friday night. The Rams came up short in the regional final for the second straight season. Braylon Gabes led Celina to the victory with a terrific all-around game.
Badin got strong play from Zach Yordy as he rushed for three scores on the night. Lem Grayson added another touchdown for the Rams in a losing effort. Alex Ritzie also had a good game in leading the Badin offense but they could not get the crucial scores needed to push through on the night. Badin finishes the season with only one loss.
DIVISION IV, REGION 16
NO. 4 ALTER 17, NO. 6 WYOMING 0
The Alter Knights ended Wyoming’s season in the regional final on Friday night. The Knights used a great defensive effort and solid running game to win the game in the trenches and advance past the Cowboys.
The Wyoming offense could not make the plays they have been accustomed to all season long. The Cowboys couldn’t come up with that spark play to get things rolling in the loss. Alter made it a physical and grinding game that they are used to playing and winning as they got the tempo in their favor. The Knights advance to the state final four.
DIVISION V, REGION 20
NO. 1 VALLEY VIEW 42, NO. 2 WAYNESVILLE 24
Valley View got their revenge on Waynesville for a week 10 loss as they secured the regional title on Friday night. The Spartans advance to their second straight state semifinals where they will face Liberty Center next Friday night.
The Spartans used a big fourth quarter to pull away after they led 28-24 heading into the final quarter. The game was tight throughout but Valley View was able to make a couple of big plays in the final frame to extend their lead and push themselves to victory.
