It’s three in a row for Big Moe

MASON, Ohio – Three is a magic number for Moeller. The Crusaders win their third straight regional title, all three have been against Lakota West and they will now face Springfield for a third consecutive time in the state semifinals.

Defense was the name of the game on this night for Moeller, who recorded its second shutout of the year. Lakota West had won 11 in a row coming into this affair and averaged 36.1 points in those victories but could only muster up 157 yards with no one crumbs on the scoreboards versus a feisty Crusaders defensive unit.

Moeller has been lights out in the playoffs allowing 5.75 points in their four victories. Kyler Paul set the tone in this contest with seven tackles, two sacks and a big fourth quarter interceptions to seal the Firebirds fate.

Running back Jordan Marshall, the 2023 Division I Southwest District Offensive Player of the Year ran for 103 yards and the games only offensive touchdown. It was the 10th time that the Moeller senior has topped the 100-yard mark in 12 games. The Michigan commit has 1,472 yards and 16 touchdowns rushing on the year.

The Crusaders offense racked up 300 total yards.  Matt Ponatoski threw for 179 yards, becoming the first quarterback in Moeller history to top the 3,000-yard mark passing in a season (3,154). The sophomore was masterful in helping the team convert all four of their fourth down attempts. Ponatoski is now 2-0 as Moeller’s starter in regional championships.
