NKY Round-Up: Dixie Heights wins big

The playoffs got underway in Northern Kentucky with Dixie Heights prevailing and some other Colonels getting a big win in the opening round.
CLASS 6A
NO. 3 FERN CREEK 36, NO. 2 SIMON KENTON 32
The Simon Kenton Pioneers fell in a tough matchup with Fern Creek on Friday night. The Pioneers blew a 19 point lead in the fourth quarter and came up short in the first round. SK raced out to the lead with some good performances in the first half. Brady Lee had 109 yards passing in the half but did toss two INT’s. He also added 29 rushing yards and a score. Grayson Harris had 3 catches for 61 yards in the half.
The Pioneers just could not put the game away in the fourth quarter as Fern Creek made a furious comeback. Lee rushed for a total of three touchdowns on the night.

CLASS 5A
NO. 3 DIXIE HEIGHTS 60, NO. 2 WOODFORD COUNTY 14
Dixie Heights scored 46 unanswered points to run away for Woodford County for a big road win on Friday night. Quarterback Armoni Gregg had his typical strong night in the big win. Gregg tossed four touchdown passes as he consistently found open wideouts running free in the secondary. Hudson Blank caught two of those touchdown passes in the win. Carter Schroer added a defensive touchdown with a scoop and score late in the game as well.

CLASS 4A
NO. 1 COVINGTON CATHOLIC 49, NO. 4 GREENUP COUNTY 12
The Covington Catholic Colonels came into their first round matchup undefeated and left the same way in a lopsided win. The Colonels set the tone from the start and never looked back in advancing to the second round. Evan Pitzer passed for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Colonels in the victory.
Running back Owen Leen added two scores of 21 and 13 yards respectively to pace CovCath on the ground. The Colonels scored 35 unanswered points to put the game away. Braylon Miller and Noah Johnson caught touchdown passes to lead the way in receiving and Andrew Bessler added a rushing score. The Colonels advance to round two.
