2023 TSF Kentucky Team of the Year: Cooper
- Updated: February 20, 2024
Cooper (12-3) was sitting at 4-2 after a heartbreaking 58-51 regular season loss to Highlands (12-2). That defeat sent the Jaguars on the prowl, winning their next eight contests including three straight road playoff games. The last of those victories was avenging that loss to Highlands and it put the Jags back into the state finals for the second time in program history (2012). They would fall in the finale to Bowling Green (12-3) but those efforts led to Cooper being named 2023 TriState Football Kentucky Team of the Year as TSF paid tribute to the area’s finest from Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton and Southeast Indiana at the Year in Review Show on Monday night, in front of a packed house at the Holy Grail in downtown Cincinnati.
The Cooper offense was special averaging 34.8 points per game with eight outbursts of 40 or more points scored and 327.7 yards of total offense per contest. The unit amassed 3,371 yards passing and 1,544 yards rushing. The Jaguars had 73 touchdowns in 2023. Every player who found the end zone returns in 2024 led by Keagan Maher (22 touchdowns in ’23), Isaiah Johnson (21) and Austin Alexander (20). Throwing them the ball is Cam O’Hara who had 47 touchdown passes and only seven interceptions last fall.
Take out the 58-point outburst by Highlands and the Cooper defense was very good. The Jaguars held 11 other foes to 15 points or less.
Randy Borchers has been the only head in the history of the Cooper program. Borchers has a 96-90 record in 16 years at the school.
This is the first time in the history of the award that Cooper has been named the TriState Football NKY Team of the Year.
