Cincinnati Round-Up: Moeller wins on the road
- Updated: August 24, 2024
Rivalry games dominated the week one slate, and some big wins were gained by some top teams. Moeller got themselves going with a solid W and some Warriors battled to an opening night win in our Cincinnati Round-Up.
NO. 2 MOELLER 38, NO. 1 PRINCETON 21
The Moeller Crusaders went into Princeton and left with a dominating victory on Friday night. Princeton opened the game with a great drive and score from quarterback De’Angelo Birch but the Crusaders would not allow much more celebration for the home team the rest of the night. Moeller scored 28 unanswered points to put the game out of reach and cruised to a victory in the matchup of the area’s two top teams.
Matt Ponatoski led the way for Moeller. He was 24-29 for 388 yards and four touchdowns on the night. He connected with Matthew Fogler, Cooper McCutchen, and twice to Jovan Love for scores in the game. Moeller moves to 1-0 on the season.
NO. 6 WINTON WOODS 16, SPRINGFIELD 6
The Winton Woods Warriors went on the road and got a big win against a talented Springfield team. The Warriors did their damage on special teams as they blocked two punts that led to scores. The first being a safety and the second materialized into a touchdown.

Bryshawn Brown scored a touchdown for Winton Woods and the Warriors were never truly threatened as they moved to 1-0 on the season. The Warriors led 16-0 at the half and never looked back on their way to victory. Springfield was hampered by the injury of starting quarterback Brent Upshaw early in the ball game.
NO. 13 KINGS 42, SYCAMORE 7
Kings exploded for a big home win over Sycamore on Friday night. The Knights and their offense was humming in front of the home crowd as they marched up and down the field repeatedly all night.
The Aviators were unable to get anything rolling on either end of the field on this night and fell to 0-1. Grant Nurre led the attack for Kings and their offense. He did damage through the air and on the ground on the way to a big night.
