Beechwood bests Simon Kenton
- Updated: September 14, 2024
INDEPENDENCE, Kentucky – The Blitz 5 Game of the Week made its way to Independence for what proved to be another entertaining matchup between Simon Kenton and Beechwood.
After combining for 112 points and over 1,200 total yards in last year’s meeting, this year’s contest left fans salivating for another classic and this one delivered.
It didn’t take long for the scoreboard to get dented as Clay Hayden hit James Cusick for a 59-yard TD strike less than 90 seconds into the game to give Beechwood a 7-0 lead.
After that quick strike the defenses both started to flex their muscles. It would be nearly 13 minutes later before either team would score. Simon Kenton’s best drive of the first half stalled just short as they settled for a 22-yard field goal.
This was followed by an impressive drive by Beechwood, which included overcoming a 1st-and-25 before Hayden’s second TD pass, a 19-yard bullet to Nathan Pabst.

Brady Lee and the Pioneers wouldn’t go away though and put a TD of their own on the board on a 10-yard connection from Lee to junior wideout Torin Turner to make it a 14-10 game at the break.
10 yd Touchdown pass for the Pioneers. Senior QB Brady Lee finds Junior WR Torin Turner on the wheel route for a score. This play was set up by a 61 yard bomb to sophomore WR Tysin Weaver.

Unfortunately for Simon Kenton this would be as close as the game would get. Hayden opened up the third quarter with his third TD pass. The senior finished the night with four scoring passes in the game and now has 13 touchdown passes through four games.
Beechwood now has won straight to the season and now heads to take on one of their biggest rivals, Covington Catholic, next week on the road. Simon Kenton has now dropped two straight games after beginning the year 2-0.
