A heavyweight bout in the GMC and a blowout win for Moeller highlight our Cincinnati Round-Up for Week 3.

NO. 4 PRINCETON 14, NO. 2 LAKOTA WEST 6
Princeton made a big early step in claiming another GMC title after a win at home against Lakota West on Friday night. The Vikings used a stellar defensive performance against the high-powered West offense to get the win in front of a great crowd in Sharonville. They did not give up a touchdown on the night.

Andre Parker led the way for Princeton’s defense with nine tackles and a pick and Shelvon Hilbert pitched in with 1.5 sacks in the win.

The Princeton offense did just enough to get the job done by putting together two solid touchdown drives to give their team breathing room and it proved to be enough for the win. The Vikings moved to 2-0 in the league and now control their own destiny for another conference crown.

The West defense once again stepped up to the challenge and were able to slow down Princeton’s high-powered offense. Grant Beerman made plays all over the field in the loss, but it was not enough.

NO. 1 MOELLER 42, NO. 17 EAST CENTRAL 13
Moeller used a physical run game and potent passing attack to dispatch East Central on Friday night. The Crusaders had a number of players step up in their roles as it was a balanced attack that put the Trojans away. They led 35-0 at the half and didn’t allow East Central to dent the scoreboard until the final eight minutes of the contest.

Quarterback Matt Ponatoski put up another strong game for Moeller as he has performed like the best play caller in the area so far this season. He finished he night with 156 yards and three touchdowns on 13-of-18 passing. The Crusaders also got a standout effort offensively from running back Dante Ware. Defensively Moeller was led by Connor Cuozzo.

Both of East Central’s scores came from Ryan Minges, who finished with 73 rushing yards in the loss.

NO. 6 WINTON WOODS 22, NO. 14 MILFORD 3
The Winton Woods Warriors used another stellar defensive performance to squeeze a win out against Milford on Friday night. The Warriors protected their home field with great effort to slow down a high-powered Milford offense. A great crowd watched Winton Woods control the game up front in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

Justin Hill lived in the backfield and made life tough on the offense of the Eagles. He had two sacks. The Warriors offense got some of their groove going by putting up a season high in points on the short season.

Through its first three contests of the season the Warriors’ defense had now ceded just 14 points to help the team to an undefeated start.
