CovCath cruises past Simon Kenton
- Updated: September 7, 2024
PARK HILLS, Kentucky – Covington Catholic was able to get their 2024 campaign back on track, picking up their first win of the season handily, defeating the previously unbeaten Simon Kenton Pioneers by a score of 42-3.
On paper, Simon Kenton came into this matchup with seemingly the upper hand over the winless Colonels. The Pioneers had put up an impressive 55 and 60 points on the scoreboard in their first two games of the season, but their high flying offense was no match for the CovCath offensive attack.
The Colonels racked up a whopping 507 yards of total offense, compared to the Pioneers’ mark of 259. CovCath could not be stopped on the ground, with junior running back Dylan Gaiser rushing for 210 yards on just 14 attempts and three touchdowns. Junior quarterback Cash Harney had 126 yards rushing on only 10 attempts. Gaiser highlighted his huge night with a 76-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
