Knights outduel Loveland in ECC clash
- Updated: September 7, 2024
Kings visited Loveland for a conference battle along the banks of the Little Miami river and the offense was flowing.
LOVELAND, Ohio – Our Blitz 5 Game of the Week made its way east to beautiful Loveland for a great Eastern Cincinnati Conference matchup between Kings and Loveland along the banks of the Little Miami River. This was the third meeting between the two squads in the calendar year as the two programs split their meetings a season ago. This one had a playoff atmosphere as the Knights and Tigers both were hoping to get their first conference win of the young season. Kings looked to get their offense back rolling as it was in week one and Loveland sought to get their offense clicking for the first time this season with hopes of avenging last season’s playoff exit at the hands of the Knights. The crowd was all hyped up for an entertaining high school football game.
Blitz 5: Loveland puts together a great game plan early. Then Alex Garvin’s halftime speech worked. Very well.

After a scoreless first quarter it seemed as though we would be locked into a defensive battle but the second quarter proved otherwise. Kings running back Carson Lindholm got things started with a short touchdown run after a solid drive for the Knights. After a stop on the defensive end, Kings went back to work with the ball. Their next drive was led by quarterback Grant Nurre who led the team down the field methodically. Nurre would cash in on a short touchdown run himself to give the Knights a 14-0 advantage.
Postgame Interview (ESPN 1530): Alex Garvin, Kings
Loveland was able to muster some offense before the end of the half. The offense led by Tyler Roberts were able to get into good field position and Roberts found an open receiver for a short score with only 22 seconds left in the half. The home crowd had something to cheer about, and some momentum was going for the Tigers into the half as they were down 14-6.
Kings started the second half with the intention to get a win and never looked back as they began to take control of the ball game in the third quarter. Nurre found a streaking Luke LoPresti on a bomb for an 81-yard touchdown pass that began to open things up. The teams would exchange some punts throughout the middle part of the quarter and Kings would cash in again when Lindholm found the endzone for his second score at the end of the third. The score was 28-6 and the Knights now had all the momentum.

In the fourth the Tigers captured a little mojo by blocking a punt. They took over on the Kings 6-yard line with a first and goal. Jewel Vorbroker would take it in a couple plays later for the score and the Tigers had cut the lead to 28-12. Later in the fourth after another stop the Tigers made things interesting. Roberts found wideout Dylan Hacker for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was good and the Tigers had the lead down to 28-20. Their ensuing onside kick was unsuccessful however and they could get no closer.
In the end it was Kings who were able to make the plays when they counted the most and come away with a big road win in the conference race. The Knights moved to 2-1 on the season and have themselves in a good spot as we head towards being almost halfway through the regular season. Nurre put the team on his back when he had to and made plays for himself and his teammates that proved to be too much for the Tigers to deal with. Loveland will look to get back on track next week, but things don’t get any easier in the tough ECC.
