SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Defense stole the show as Springfield held off Springboro in a key midseason battle for sole possession of first place in the GWOC. The Wildcats held the visiting Panthers to just 101 yards of total offense including just 14 yards rushing on 24 attempts to pick up their fourth straight. Springfield has not given up more than 16 points in six contests.

The victory wasn’t easy for the Wildcats. They had to overcome a sluggish offensive performance (70 yards passing, 77 yards rushing) and 12 penalties for 105 yards. Springfield has only scored more than 17 points once. Quarterback Brent Upshaw ran for his first career touchdown, in this, his 20th game.

Springboro now drops into a three-way tie for second place in the conference with Fairmont and Centerville. The Panthers have yet to play either team. Centerville owns a three-point win over Fairmont.
