Best Bets: Week 10
- Updated: October 24, 2024
Although it seems like just last week that we were kicking this thing off; just like that we have reached the final week of the regular season. Week 10 is here and every team would like to pick up a win to start their momentum train into the postseason. Unfortunately, every team can’t win but some desperately need a win to ensure their seeding is to their liking. Others are safely in the field and likely locked into a good position, but they still would like to keep the positive vibes flowing on their season. Last week we saw Anderson, Wyoming, Clinton-Massie, and Lakota West all move a step closer to a conference title while keeping their mojo pristine. Several teams have similar opportunities here in week 10.
This week there are lots of conference titles on the line. Badin travels to McNicholas for the GCL Co-ed title. Covington Catholic hosts Mason County for the Class 4A, District 5 title. Cincinnati Country Day visits St. Bernard-Elmwood Place with the MVC Gray crown on the line. Finally, Cooper looks to complete an undefeated regular season when they travel to Dixie Heights. There is much to play for in this final week and we are sure to get every teams “A” game. Here are the Best Bets for week 10.
#17 BADIN AT #24 MCNICHOLAS
Things get started for Badin with their tenacious defense. The Rams are giving up a mere 8.5 PPG this season and have allowed 17 or less points in every game. In conference play Badin is only allowing 3.4 PPG and have been stout in all areas. Trent Owens leads the team with 72 tackles. Royce Rachel is second in the league with 7 sacks and Xander Arnold has three interceptions for the team lead.
Offensively the Rams have been solid on their current seven game win streak and have done so by being a balanced unit. Lem Grayson carries the workload on the ground as he has 742 yards rushing with 10 touchdowns. James Brink leads the conference in receiving with 387 yards on 32 receptions. Quarterback Colt Emerson makes the whole train go with his leadership and decision making.
McNick is led by some great players offensively. Quarterback Braden Bobo is the league’s leading passer with 1054 yards and 10 touchdowns. The top running back in the league is Caleb Nauman who has rushed for 1093 yards and 14 scores. AJ Gundler is their top receiving threat.
Defensively the Rockets have only given up over 20 points just once this season and have been a fun unit to watch. Blaize Voelker leads the team with 67 tackles which ranks fourth in the conference. Bo Tobin (8), Jack Mayer (5), and Zac Belmont (4.5) are all top five in sacks. Nate Colyer has six interceptions to lead the league as well.
This one should be a Badin/McNick game of old, but the conference title has run through Badin as of late and expect it to stay that way. Rams win.
MASON COUNTY AT #14 COVINGTON CATHOLIC
The Royals have been a scoring machine in their wins this season. Along with a ton of scoring their defense has been spot on as they have been able to separate from opponents early and win going away. With a playoff spot secured they’ll want to get one final big win on their resume’.
Cash Harney has stepped in and led the offense for the Colonels very well this season. They have continued to lean on a tough and physical run game and can also hit you over the top with the pass. Owen Pitzer, Dylan Geisler, and Nicolas Krallman have been great pieces offensively as well. Tate Kruer has been a terror for opposing offenses for the Colonels.
Mason County is having another great season but bet on the Colonels to take this one.
CINCINNATI COUNTRY DAY AT ST. BERNARD-ELMWOOD PLACE
Elijah Guttman leads the league with 2,000 yards passing and 26 touchdowns. He has thrown zero interceptions on the year as he is putting together a very impressive season. He looks most to wideout Thomas Huckleby who has 864 receiving and 12 touchdowns. On the ground Lee Thomas has run for 1337 yards and 18 scores as the Nighthawks have been very balanced. Ryan Coyle has 111 tackles to lead the defense, and Huckleby leads the way with 4 interceptions.
Lucas Cannady has thrown for 1334 yards and 12 touchdowns at quarterback for SBEP. He has also rushed for 301 yards and three touchdowns. Demico Harris leads the league in rushing with 1440 yards and has scored 21 touchdowns in being a dominating force. Damien Dawson is a top receiver with 802 yards and 10 scores. Harris also leads the team defensively with 89 tackles and Yeremiah Isreal has 9 sacks on the season to lead in that category.
This one is up for grabs and CCD has the pieces to get a big road win. Nighthawks will take the title.
#5 COOPER AT DIXIE HEIGHTS
Cam O’Hara has been one of the best players in the tristate this season and his numbers have backed that up. O’Hara has thrown for 2,072 yards and 29 touchdowns against only one interception. The Jaguars are the premiere team in Northern Kentucky and have some of the most talented skill players in the area with the likes of Austin Alexander, Isaiah Johnson, and Keagan Maher. Defensively, Alexander and Isaac Brown have been keys to the Jaguars success and they all have a strong desire to get back to the state title game and finish the job. They will look to make another step towards that on Friday Night
Armani Gregg has been a mainstay for the Colonels and as his career winds down, he is still one of the most electric players in the area. He has continued to put his best forward as Dixie Heights battles many teams that outman them. The offense has run through Gregg and he will need a huge night if an upset is going to be brewing. Mason Fields has been a nice addition in the backfield that can help take the pressure off of Gregg and he has performed well this season. David Anderson and JJ Kriger have the ability to make big plays when the Colonels are really looking for a spark. Defensively the Colonels will need to play their best game as they have been susceptible to big scoring outings and that won’t bode well if it happens this week.
Cooper has been dominant this season, and nothing says things will change this week. Jaguars will roll.
