Best Bets: Week 11
- Updated: October 30, 2024
Week 11 has arrived and that can only mean one thing: it’s playoff time. The slate for those that have made their way into the postseason has been wiped clean and every team has a chance to make a run to a championship. A fresh start is what many teams are looking for, especially those who may not have played their best ball down the stretch. Teams that have been consistent however would definitely like to continue down that same path in hopes of having a championship moment in Canton in just a few short weeks. We have officially entered win or go home time.
This week we have several solid matchups between closely seeded teams that are sure to produce some high level football. These are the types of ball games that could conjure momentum for the winner and just maybe jumpstart a Cinderella-esque deep run. This week Mason travels to Elder for a high-level affair. Withrow has a date with Kings on the road. Madeira hits the road to Williamsburg and in Indiana, Batesville has a rematch wjth Franklin County. Survive and advance is the goal. Here are the Best Bets for week 11.
DIVISION I, REGION 4
#10 MASON AT #7 ELDER
Mason finished fifth in the tough Greater Miami Conference and were close in a couple games that could have boosted their seeding. The Comets have leaned on a running game that has helped them take possessions away from their opponents when they can really get it going. They have the pieces to be tough on defense and have shown that at times during the season.
Temi Adensanya has led them in rushing as he has 588 yards and six touchdowns. Branden Dunn has chipped in with 199 yards on the ground as well. Quarterback has thrown for 980 yards and 8 scores. Ethan Jordan and CJ Castner have been threats when the Comets look to the passing game. Defensively the Comets only give up 16.3 PPG but have been burned by several explosive outings. Alex Brown has 82 tackles to lead the team.
Elder went 0-3 in the rugged GCL South and similar to the Comets, may have let a couple games slip away. The Panthers haven’t been their typical selves on either side of the ball as they have not had things click for them in the right moments. Still they still have the ability to at any moment.
Sophomore Kaden Estep has grown nicely as a starter and threw for 1,504 yards and 10 touchdowns for the offense. He has looked to the reliable hands of Christopher Paff and Joey Thamann in the passing game as they both finished top five in the conference in receiving yards. Thamann also finished second in rushing with 617 yards and 8 touchdowns. Cooper Sandhas has 71 tackles to lead a defense capable of playing better than they have.
Both squads have failed to really build any momentum for themselves, but this is a second chance. The Pit can be unforgiving so bet on a raucous crowd to push the Panthers to victory.
DIVISION II, REGION 8
#10 WITHROW AT #7 KINGS
Withrow went undefeated in the CMAC and needed every one of those victories to get the seed that they got. The Tigers played a tough non conference schedule and miss some close games early while trying to adjust to a new head coach and a host of new starters in key positions. They are now winners of five in a row and are feeling good about themselves.
Quentin Simmons has been a star for the Tigers as they have placed him all over the field this season and he has made an impact every time. Kris Bonner has been a consistent threat in the run game and many guys are playing both sides of the ball and have really stepped things up during this current win streak.
Kings lost two games to two of the best teams in Ohio and have been dominant in their eight wins. They appear to be a dark horse pick to get back to a final four as they did two seasons ago. Carson Lindholm has been the Knights’ engine from the running back position. He has 934 yards and 16 scores for the Knights. Grant Nurre has been wonderful at quarterback. He’s thrown for 1,664 yards and 8 touchdowns and rushed for 369 yards and another 6 TD.
Withrow has gotten hot late, but Kings has been consistent all year. Take the Knights at home.
DIVISION V, REGION 20
#11 MADEIRA AT #6 WILLIAMSBURG
Braeden Wallace has thrown for 2,190 yards and 20 touchdowns to lead the Mustangs to a playoff berth. The junior has completed 66% of his passes. Aidan Hopewell (1099), Owen Hilgeman (525), and Colin Miranda (456) are all major receiving targets. Robbie Lewis has 109 tackles.
Michael Corcoran has passed for 1406 yards on the season and has a wealth of receivers as well. Guys like Caleb Harris, Kian Stamper, and Landon Hittle have been his favorite targets. Gray Robinson has been the main rusher and Hittle has chipped in with a solid rushing season as well.
This one screams offense and whose offense can score the most. Madeira goes into Williamsburg and pulls the upset.
INDIANA
CLASS 3A, SECTIONAL 30
BATESVILLE AT FRANKLIN COUNTY
Will Jaisle has thrown for 1,552 yards and 16 touchdowns to lead the Batesville offense to. 6-3 record. Judd Renck has led the defense with 35 total tackles. The Bulldogs have been balanced as well by rushing for 1,443 yards as a team. Gage Pohlman is the leading rusher with 800 yards and six TD.
Quinn Gillman has amassed 1,918 passing yards and 22 touchdowns this season to lead Franklin County. He also has rushed for 1,073 yards and 12 TD making him an elite dual threat option and a tough assignment for any defense. Kane Westerman has 57 total tackles to lead the defense.
Franklin County pushed by Batesville by two touchdowns just three weeks ago. They will get the job done again this weekend.
