Blitz 5 Top 25: Week 7

League play has started and rivals are beating up on each other. It has caused ripples in the Blitz 5 Top 25 presented by TriStateFootball.com. The rankings have tightened up throughout the poll and there is no indication that the current pattern is going to let up any time soon.

There are only four games pitting Top 25 teams against each other this week as #1 Moeller hosts #8 Elder at Nippert Stadium. Red hot #10 Hamilton is at struggling #25 Fairfield, #18 Harrison welcomes in #24 Mount Healthy and #21 Mason invades #15 Middletown.

Here’s the Blitz 5 Top 25 for Week 7:

  1. Moeller (5-1, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: won at then #9 La Salle (5-1,0-1), 38-0. The Big Moe offense has topped 38 points or more five times in six outings. NEXT UP: 10/4 – #8 ELDER (4-2, 0-1), at Nippert Stadium.

    2. Lakota West (5-1, 4-1) – LAST WEEK: beat Colerain (0-6, 0-5), 52-0. The Firebirds are averaging 51.0 points with a 44.0 point average margin of victory over the last three games. NEXT UP: 10/4 – at Sycamore (1-5, 1-4).

    3. St. Xavier (4-2, 1-1) – LAST WEEK: won at #8 Elder (4-2, 0-1), 22-17. Chase Herbstreit and Daniel Vollmer have combined for 13 of the Bombers 15 rushing touchdowns. NEXT UP: 10/4 – at Louisville Trinity (KY)(4-2).

    4. Anderson (6-0, 5-0) LAST WEEK: won at then #17 Milford (3-3, 2-3), 57-6. The Raptors offense is averaging 51 points per contest and have put up 40-plus points before halftime three times. NEXT UP: 10/4 – TURPIN (2-4, 2-3).

    5. Winton Woods (6-0, 5-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Little Miami (1-5, 1-4), 41-14. The Warriors defense has outscored opponents 36-28 on the year. NEXT UP: 10/4 – at Loveland (2-4, 2-3).

    6. Cooper (6-0, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: won at then #12 Highlands (4-2, 0-1), 24-21. The Jaguars have won 10 consecutive regular season games and 14 of their last 15 contests. NEXT UP: 10/3 – CONNER (5-1, 1-0).

    7. Princeton (4-2, 4-1) – LAST WEEK: lost at then #15  Hamilton (4-2, 2-2), 34-0. The Vikings were held to a season low 45 yards of total offense last week versus the Big Blue. NEXT UP: 10/4 – OAK HILLS (3-3, 2-3).

    8. Elder (4-2, 0-1) – LAST WEEK: lost to then #3 St. Xavier (4-2, 1-1), 22-17. The Panthers have not given up more than 24 points in a game. NEXT UP: 10/4 – at #1 Moeller (5-1, 2-0), at Nippert Stadium.

    9. Lakota East (4-2, 4-1) – LAST WEEK: beat then #10 Middletown (4-2, 3-2), 50-23. The Thunderhawks have topped the 50-point mark in back-to-back games. NEXT UP: 10/4 – at Colerain (0-6, 0-5).

    10. Hamilton (4-2, 3-2) – LAST WEEK: beat then #2 Princeton (4-2, 4-1), 34-0.The Big Blue are clicking on all cylinders with three straight wins and only 10 points allowed in that span. NEXT UP: 10/4 – at #25 Fairfield (2-4, 2-3).

    11. La Salle (5-1, 0-1) – LAST WEEK: lost to #1 Moeller (5-1, 2-0), 38-0.The Lancers have yet to throw a touchdown pass this season. NEXT UP: 10/4 – at Roncalli (IN)(3-2).

    12. Ryle (4-1) – LAST WEEK: Bye. Junior Jacob Savage leads the Raiders in tackles (47), rushing yards (342) and touchdowns scored (10). NEXT UP: 10/4 – at Louisville St. Xavier (3-2).

    13. Highlands (4-2, 0-1) – LAST WEEK: lost to #7 Cooper (6-0, 1-0), 24-21. The Bluebirds are 1-2 versus Cooper in the last year with all three of those battles being decided by seven points or less. NEXT UP: 10/4 – DIXIE HEIGHTS (2-3, 0-0).

    14. Covington Catholic (4-2, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Holmes (0–6, 0-1), 56-0. Junior Dylan Gaiser and Cash Harney are both on pace to run for more than 1,000 yards. NEXT UP: 10/4 – GRANT COUNTY (4-1, 1-0).

    15. Middletown (4-2, 3-2) – LAST WEEK: lost at then #13 Lakota East (4-2,4-1), 50-23. The Middies have given up 50 points in back-to-back losses. They gave up just 42 points combined in their four wins to start the season. NEXT UP: 10/4 – MASON (2-4, 2-3).

    16. West Clermont (4-2, 3-2) – LAST WEEK: won at Turpin (2-4, 2-3), 17-14. Landon Young (394) and Bo Rickman (266) combined to run for 560 yards the last two weeks. NEXT UP: 10/4 – WALNUT HILLS (1-5, 0-5).

    17. Kings (4-2, 3-2) – LAST WEEK: beat Lebanon (3-3, 2-3), 38-7. Senior Carson Lindholm leads the ECC with 10 rushing touchdowns. NEXT UP: 10/4 – LITTLE MIAMI (1-5, 1-4).

    18. Harrison (5-1, 0-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Campbell County (2-3), 49-14. Junior defensive lineman Logan White has a SWOC high 8.5 sacks. NEXT UP: 10/4 – #24 MOUNT HEALTHY (5-1, 1-0).

    19. East Central (4-2, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: won at South Dearborn (4-2), 45-0. The Trojans have been victorious 25 times in their last 27 contests. NEXT UP: 10/4 – at Connersville (2-4, 0-0).

    20. Badin (4-2, 0-1) – LAST WEEK: won at Fenwick (2-4, 0-1), 35-7. The Rams are allowing just 10.0 points per game and no one has scored more than 17 points on them. NEXT UP: 10/4 – CARROLL (4-2, 0-1), at Edgewood H.S..

    21. Mason (2-4, 2-3) – LAST WEEK: beat then #22 Fairfield (2-4, 2-3), 31-13. Senior Branden Dunn collects the first 100-yard rushing performance of the year for the Comets against Fairfield. NEXT UP: 10/4 – at #15. Middletown (4-2, 3-2).

    22. Milford (3-3, 2-3) – LAST WEEK: lost to then #5 Anderson (6-0, 5-0), 57-6. The Eagles are allowing 38.0 points per game in ECC play. NEXT UP: 10/4 – at Lebanon (3-3, 2-3).

    23. Beechwood (5-1, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: beat Gallatin County (1-4, 0-1), 61-0. The Tigers have outscored Gallatin County 117-0 in their last two meetings. NEXT UP: 10/4 – at Walton-Verona (1-4, 0-1).

    24. Mount Healthy (5-1, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: beat Northwest (1-5, 0-1), 29-16. The Owls have won five games in a row for the first time since 2016.NEXT UP: 10/4 – at #18 Harrison (5-1, 0-0).

    25. Fairfield (2-4, 2-3) – LAST WEEK: lost at then #23 Mason, 31-13. The Indians have been outscored 140-44 during their current three game losing streak. NEXT UP: 10/4 – #10 HAMILTON (4-2, 3-2).
