Blitz 5 Top 25: Week 8

The cream has risen to the top as ranked teams 1-5 in the Blitz 5 Top 25 presented by TriStateFootball.com are a combined 33-2. Teams 6-10 have gone a combined 23-12 with five of those losses being to teams that are currently 1-5 in the rankings. There are two newcomers to the poll this week, red hot Wyoming and McNicholas.

There are only three games pitting Top 25 teams against each other this week as #4 Winton Woods hosts #15 West Clermont, #9 Hamilton welcomes in #21 Middletown and #6 St. Xavier is at #11 La Salle in the annual King of the Road game.

Here’s the Blitz 5 Top 25 for Week 8:

  1. Moeller (6-1, 3-0) – LAST WEEK: beat then #8 Elder (4-3,0-2), 42-14. The Crusaders wrapped up their third straight GCL South title. They haven’t lost a league game since October 2nd, 2021 (nine wins in a row). NEXT UP: 10/11 – at St. Ignatius (1-6).

    2. Lakota West (6-1, 5-1) – LAST WEEK: won at Sycamore (1-5, 1-4), 52-0. The Firebirds top the 50-point mark for a fourth straight week. They have outscored their opponents 205-21 in that span. NEXT UP: 10/11 – at Oak Hills (3-4, 2-4).

    3. Anderson (7-0, 6-0) – LAST WEEK: beat Turpin (3-4, 2-4), 56-13. Trace Jallick (202) became the 26th player in Ohio history to have 200 career receptions. NEXT UP: 10/11 – at Walnut Hills (1-6, 0-6).

    4. Winton Woods (7-0, 6-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Loveland (2-5, 2-4), 49-0. The Warriors have shutout three of their last four foes and are allowing just 4.0 points per contest. NEXT UP: 10/11 – #15 WEST CLERMONT (5-2, 4-2).

    5. Cooper (7-0, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat Conner (5-2, 1-1) 42-17. The Jaguars are 7-0 for the first time in school history. NEXT UP: 10/11 – SCOTT (2-4, 1-1).

    6. St. Xavier (4-3, 1-1) – LAST WEEK: lost at Louisville Trinity (KY)(5-2), 7-3. The Bombers three losses have been by four, four and eight points. NEXT UP: 10/11 – at #11 La Salle (6-1, 0-1).

    7. Princeton (5-2, 5-1) – LAST WEEK: BEAT Oak Hills (3-4, 2-4), 23-10. The Vikings are averaging 84.2 yards rushing over the last four games. NEXT UP: 10/11 – FAIRFIELD (2-5, 2-4).

    8. Lakota East (5-2, 5-1) – LAST WEEK: won at Colerain (0-7, 0-6), 36-31. The Thunderhawks are 3-1 in games decided by seven points or less. NEXT UP: 10/11 – SYCAMORE (1-6, 1-5).

    9. Hamilton (5-2, 4-2) – LAST WEEK: won at then #25 Fairfield (2-5, 2-4), 42-21.Gracen Goldsmith has 410 yards and eight touchdowns rushing the past two weeks. NEXT UP: 10/11 – #21 MIDDLETOWN (4-3, 3-3).

    10. Elder (4-3, 0-2) – LAST WEEK: lost at #1 Moeller (6-1, 3-0), 42-14. The Panthers have not given up more than 24 points in a game. NEXT UP: 10/11 – RIVERDALE BAPTIST (MD)(3-0).

    11. La Salle (6-1, 0-1) – LAST WEEK: won at Roncalli (IN)(3-3), 28-17. The Lancers have given up 55 of their 105 points on the season over the last two weeks. NEXT UP: 10/11 – #6 St. Xavier (4-3, 1-1).

    12. Ryle (4-2) – LAST WEEK: lost at Louisville St. Xavier (4-2), 31-24. Both of the Raiders’ losses are by seven points. NEXT UP: 10/11 – CAMPBELL COUNTY (2-4).

    13. Highlands (5-2, 1-1) – LAST WEEK: beat Dixie Heights (2-4, 0-1), 49-0. The Bluebirds’ defense recorded its third shutout in the last five contests. NEXT UP: 10/11 – at Boone County (2-4, 0-2).

    14. Covington Catholic (5-2, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: Grant County (4-2, 1-1), 54-0. The Colonels have won their first two district games by a combined score of 110-0. NEXT UP: 10/18 – at Harrison County (1-5, 0-1).

    15. West Clermont (5-2, 4-2) – LAST WEEK: beat Walnut Hills (1-6, 1-5), 30-0. Landon Young (575) and Bo Rickman (413) combined to run for 988 yards and 11 touchdowns (Rickman six, Young five) the last three weeks. NEXT UP: 10/11 – at #4 Winton Woods (7-0, 6-0).

    16. Kings (5-2, 4-2) – LAST WEEK: beat Little Miami (1-6, 1-5), 38-0. The Knights recorded their first shutout in 34 games. NEXT UP: 10/11 – at Milford (3-4, 2-4).

    17. Harrison (6-1, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: beat then #24 Mount Healthy (5-2, 1-1), 49-26. The Wildcats have posted 49 points four times in the last five games. NEXT UP: 10/11 – TALAWANDA (3-4, 1-0).

    18. East Central (5-2) – LAST WEEK: won at Connersville (2-5, 0-1), 62-6. The Trojans have a 38.0 point average margin of victory during their current four-game winning streak. NEXT UP: 10/11 – at Greensburg (0-7).

    19. Badin (4-2, 0-1) – LAST WEEK: beat Carroll (4-3, 0-2), 56-7. The Rams have won five in a row and 43 of their last 45 regular season games. NEXT UP: 10/11 – at Alter (3-4, 1-1), at Bellbrook H.S.

    20. Mason (3-4, 3-3) – LAST WEEK: won at then #15 Middletown (4-3, 3-3), 17-14. The rushing attack has come to life with 396 yards on the ground in the Comets’ modest two-game winning streak. NEXT UP: 10/11 – at Colerain (0-7, 0-6).

    21. Middletown (4-3, 3-3) – LAST WEEK: lost to then #21 Mason (3-4, 3-3), 17-14. The Middies are starting to fade, having dropped three straight since starting 4-0. NEXT UP: 10/11 – at #9 Hamilton (5-2, 4-2).

    22. Beechwood (6-1, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Walton-Verona (1-4, 0-1), 69-0. The Tigers have won their first two district games by a combined score of 130-0. NEXT UP: 10/11 – at Owen County (6-1, 2-0).

    23. Wyoming (7-0, 4-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Deer Park (3-4, 1-3), 56-20. Running back Joel Hancock has run for 1,406 yards (200.9 yards/game) and 19 touchdowns. NEXT UP: 10/10 – MARIEMONT (2-5, 1-3).

    24. McNicholas (6-1, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat Alter (3-4, 1-1), 7-3. After a two-point loss to Steubenville in the opener, the Rockets have reeled off six straight wins for the first time since
    2021, when they started 8-0. NEXT UP: 10/11 – FENWICK (2-5, 0-2).

    25. Mount Healthy (5-2, 1-1) – LAST WEEK: lost at then #18 Harrison (6-1, 1-0), 49-26. The Owls have given up 91 points in losses to Harrison the past two years. NEXT UP: 10/11 – BELMONT (4-3).
