Blitz 5 Top 25: Week 9

As we near the end of the regular season the battles for conference and district titles the Blitz 5 Top 25 presented by TriStateFootball.com is sure to see some jostling in the poll. With championships on the line we expect the area’s best will live up to their billing.

There are only three games pitting Top 25 teams against each other this week but they are good ones as #2 Lakota West hosts #8 Lakota East,  #4 Winton Woods is at #3 Anderson and #7 Princeton welcomes in #21 Middletown. Five other teams will face teams that have won at least six tilts.

Here’s the Blitz 5 Top 25 for Week 9:

  1. Moeller (7-1) – LAST WEEK: won at St. Ignatius (1-7), 44-0. The Crusaders defense records its second shutout in the last three weeks. NEXT UP: 10/19 – ST. EDWARD (5-3) at West Clermont H.S.

    2. Lakota West (7-1, 6-1) – LAST WEEK: won at Oak Hills (3-5, 2-5), 52-7. The Firebirds top the 50-point mark for a fifth straight week. They have outscored their opponents 257-28 in that span. NEXT UP: 10/18 – #8 LAKOTA EAST (6-2, 6-1) .

    3. Anderson (8-0, 7-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Walnut Hills (1-7, 0-7), 46-7. A stingy Raptors defense is allowing just 5.8 points per game. NEXT UP: 10/18 – #4 WINTON WOODS (8-0, 7-0).

    4. Winton Woods (8-0, 7-0) – LAST WEEK: beat #15 West Clermont (5-3, 4-3), 12-7. An even stingier Warriors defense is allowing only 4.4 points per game. NEXT UP: 10/18 – at #3 Anderson (8-0, 7-0).

    5. Cooper (8-0, 3-0) – LAST WEEK: beat Scott (2-5, 1-2) 41-0. The Jaguars recorded their third shutout in the last seven contests. NEXT UP: 10/18 – at Boone County (2-5, 0-3).

    6. St. Xavier (5-3, 2-1) – LAST WEEK: won at then #11 La Salle (6-2, 0-2), 9-0. The Bombers defense records their first shutout in 20 games. NEXT UP: 10/18 – ST. IGNATIUS (1-7).

    7. Princeton (6-2, 6-1) – LAST WEEK: beat Fairfield (2-6, 2-5), 62-30. D’Lo Birch (115), Teryntino Brown-Freeman (93), David Hambrick (83) and Antonio Hunter (63) ran for season high’s as the Vikings churned out 366 yards on the ground against Fairfield. NEXT UP: 10/18 – at #21 Middletown (4-4, 3-4).

    8. Lakota East (6-2, 6-1) – LAST WEEK: won at beat Sycamore (1-7, 1-6), 56-12. The Thunderhawks are averaging 50.2 points per contest during their current four game winning streak. NEXT UP: 10/18 – at #2 Lakota West (7-1, 6-1).

    9. Hamilton (6-2, 5-2) – LAST WEEK: beat #21 Middletown (4-4, 3-4), 42-7. For the first time in the 21st century the Big Blue has a five-game winning streak. NEXT UP: 10/18 – at Colerain (0-8, 0-7).

    10. Ryle (5-2, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: beat Campbell County (2-4, 0-1), 42-14. All seven teams that the Raiders have faced, have winning records and are a combined 34-1 on the year (.755 winning %). NEXT UP: 10/18 – GREAT CROSSING (5-2, 1-0).

    11. Highlands (6-2, 2-1) – LAST WEEK: won at Boone County (2-5, 0-3), 55-0. The Bluebirds defense has recorded back-to-back shutouts and has blanked four of its last six foes. NEXT UP: 10/18 – at Conner (6-2, 2-1).

    12. Elder (4-4, 0-2) – LAST WEEK: lost at #1 Moeller to Riverdale Baptist (MD)(5-0), 28-27, OT. The last four opponents on the Panthers are currently a combined 24-4 (.57 winning %). NEXT UP: 10/18 – BISHOP CHATARD (6-1).

    13. La Salle (6-2, 0-2) – LAST WEEK: lost to #6 St. Xavier (5-3, 2-1), 9-0. The Lancers have not not thrown a touchdown pass in seven of their eight games played. NEXT UP: 10/18 – Harvest Prep (6-1).

    14. Covington Catholic (5-2, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: BYE. The Colonels are on a five game winning streak. NEXT UP: 10/18 – at Harrison County (1-5, 0-1).

    15. West Clermont (5-3, 4-3) – LAST WEEK: lost at #4 Winton Woods (8-0, 7-0), 12-7. The Wolves were held to a season low, 96 yards of total offense against Winton Woods. NEXT UP: 10/18 – LOVELAND (3-5, 3-4).

    16. Kings (6-2, 5-2) – LAST WEEK: won at Milford (3-5, 2-5), 45-0. The Knights have recorded back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 2006. NEXT UP: 10/18 – TURPIN (2-6, 2-5).

    17. Harrison (7-1, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat Talawanda (3-5, 1-1), 56-15. Preston Flick (12), Cole Koops (11) and Josh Addelsperger (9) have combined to score 32 of the Wildcats 49 touchdowns on the year. NEXT UP: 10/18 – at Bishop Watterson (8-0).

    18. East Central (6-2) – LAST WEEK: won at Greensburg (0-8), 49-0. The Trojans have committed just three turnovers all year. NEXT UP: 10/18 – RONCALLI (3-4).

    19. Badin (6-2, 3-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Alter (3-5, 1-2), 13-10. Six straight wins has seen the Rams hold opponents to 9.2 points in that span. NEXT UP: 10/19 – CHAMINADE JULIENNE (5-3, 2-1), at Fairfield H.S.

    20. Mason (4-4, 4-3) – LAST WEEK: won at Colerain (0-8, 0-7), 31-0. The Comets have a three game winning streak for a third consecutive season. NEXT UP: 10/18 – at Sycamore (1-7, 1-6).

    21. Middletown (4-4, 3-4) – LAST WEEK: lost at #9 Hamilton (6-2, 5-2), 42-7. The Middies are giving up 40.0 points per contest during their current four game skid, all to Top 25 teams. NEXT UP: 10/18 – #7 PRINCETON (6-2, 6-1).

    22. Beechwood (7-1, 3-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Owen County (6-2, 2-1), 42-0. The Tigers have won their three district games by a combined score of 172-0. NEXT UP: 10/18 – CARROLL COUNTY (0-8, 0-3).

    23. Wyoming (8-0, 5-0) – LAST WEEK: beat Mariemont (2-6, 1-4), 41-6. Sophomore Josiah Gault has had at least one reception of 30-yards or more in seven of the Cowboys eight contests and five games with a catch of 57-yards or longer. NEXT UP: 10/18 – Indian Hill (7-1, 5-0).

    24. McNicholas (7-1, 3-0) – LAST WEEK: beat Fenwick (2-6, 0-3), 35-7. The Rockets are allowing just 7.4 points during their current seven game winning streak. NEXT UP: 10/18 – at Carroll (4-4, 0-3).

    25. Mount Healthy (6-2, 1-1) – LAST WEEK: beat Belmont (4-4), 42-0. Quarterback Jahmier Spain has now thrown for 7,142 yards and 73 touchdowns in his career. NEXT UP: 10/18 – TALAWANDA (3-5, 1-1).
