Cincinnati Round-Up: Week 10
- Updated: October 26, 2024
In the final week of the regular season across Ohio, there were multiple big games across the area that had major impacts on playoff seeding, conference titles and even one Blitz 5 Top 25 matchup in the GMC.
#2 LAKOTA WEST 41, #18 MASON 0
Friday night featured a big-time matchup in the GMC, with Mason hosting conference champion Lakota West. Mason came into the contest riding a wave of momentum that’s been ongoing since mid season, but it was no match for the big red Firebird machine.
Lakota West jumped out early to a commanding lead and never looked back, stifling Mason’s offense to just 130 yards of total offense, compared to the Firebirds 378. The trenches were a point of emphasis for West head coach Tom Bolden’s squad, and they simply dominated on both sides of the ball. The Firebirds ran for 264 yards on offense and 3 sacks on defense.
West’s senior quarterback Sam Wiles punished the Comets defense with both his arm and his legs, throwing for a cool 110 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 7 attempts.
#5 WINTON WOODS 28, LEBANON 14
Winton Woods got the bounce back game they needed to cap off their regular season with a two-score victory over conference foe Lebanon, 28-14.
After falling behind early, the Warriors used an impressive second half to pull ahead of Lebanon late, scoring a whopping 21 points in the fourth quarter alone. It wasn’t just the offense that pulled out the come-from-behind victory, however. The Warriors special teams unit got a game-changing play from Tate Tubbs. Tubbs took a punt from Lebanon back 80 yards to the house and propelled Winton Woods into the lead.
The Warriors never looked back, holding Lebanon to another punt and iced the game with a rushing touchdown from junior Kymetrius Gates. Winton Woods will finish second in conference play after the win, while Lebanon will round out their season with a solid 5th place finish. Both squads now turn their attention to the playoff road ahead.
TAYLOR 28, INDIAN HILL 21
Two of the top squads in the Cincinnati Hills League met in the final game of the regular season. With Wyoming claiming the top prize of conference champion once again, the Indian Hill Braves visited the Yellowjackets of Taylor with both teams gunning for second place and a better playoff seed.
It was a tightly contested battle between the two sides, as the Braves fought back from an early deficit to make it competitive late. The game came down to which offense was able to strike next, and Taylor found the endzone late to put the game in their defense’s hands.
The Yellowjackets defense was able to stand tall and put the game away, finishing up Taylor’s season at an impressive 8-2. Indian Hill dropped to 7-3 on the season, but will still receive a good seed for the playoffs as the third place finishers.
