Lindholm leads way in Kings win
- Updated: October 11, 2024
Our Blitz 5 Game of the Week made its way to Milford where the host Eagles were entertaining the Kings Knights. The two teams have been heading in the opposite direction as of late. Milford was in the midst of a three-game losing streak, something they had not experienced in five years. The Eagles were looking to turn things around late in the season. Kings was riding a two-game win streak and hoped to continue their momentum to a big road win.
Milford currently sits as the potential eleventh seed in the division I region 4 playoffs and a win would certainly help their cause in jumping up a line or two with two weeks left. Kings sits as a 5 seed and just outside the coveted top 4 in division II region 8. They’d love the opportunity to potentially play two home games and a loss certainly would do those hopes damage. It was a battle that neither team wanted to lose.
Kings dominated the game from the outset in coming away with a 45-0 victory on Friday night. Running back Carson Lindholm put on a show in front of a full house as the Knights flexed their muscles early and often. Things got started in the first when Lindholm took a first quarter handoff and went 80 yards virtually untouched for a score within the first seven seconds of the game. Just over five minutes later, quarterback Grant Nurre found Nate Lyman for a 25-yard touchdown pass and an early 14-0 lead.
After another quick Milford possession, Lindholm punched one in from four yards out and a 21-0 lead after a quarter of play. The opening frame left the Eagle fans and players alike stunned as Kings threw an early haymaker, and they weren’t finished. Seventeen more points would be tacked on in the second quarter. Noah Magrino cashed in a long field goal and Lindholm would add two more rushing scores to push Kings to a dominating 38-0 halftime lead. Lindholm had four scores in the half as he was an unstoppable force for Milford to deal with.
The Kings defense repeatedly put the pressure on Milford and the Eagles had a tough time moving the ball throughout the half. The Knights seemed to be flying around all over the field, covering every possible avenue that the Eagles could try and go. A running clock in the second half had things over very quickly. In the third, the Knights were able to sub out their primary starters and backup quarterback Nathan Tucker got in on the action with a 76-yard touchdown run to produce the final score.
On the night Lindholm rushed for 141 yards. Grant Nurre was 11-16 passing for 107 yards and a touchdown. Nate Lyman caught four balls for 47 yards and his score. Zach Hoying led the way defensively with 7 total tackles. In the end the Knights were too strong in every facet of the game and look like a team that can make a run back to the state final four as they did two years ago. They should definitely be a team to look out for come the division II playoffs. The Knights moved to 6-2 on the season. Milford fell to 3-5
